Best rifle you ever bought?

I've owned many rifles including remington, sako, tikka, weatherby, marlin, wimchester, cz... and still own many of them but I love my Zastava M70/Z98 stainless synthtic in 6.5x55. Its light, has a handy 21.5 inch barrel, proper controlled feed mauser action with the 3rd rear lug factory, adjustable trigger, iron sights, all steel part such as the trigger guard, follower, bolt shroud and very accurte with 129grain SSTs.

My Winchester 9422-M, bought it eons ago when they first came out. It has shot a he!! of lot of ground hogs, feral cats and small game. It has never once gave me a speck of trouble. Exceedingly well made and ridiculously accurate for a lever action rifle.

The best I ever bought was probably my .270 BBR, circa 1983. It was bought on insurance to replace another Browning .270 that had been stolen during a break-in. It had the Mark V action, a free-floated barrel with an aluminum insert in the forestock, and very nicely figured walnut. It was an absolute tack driver and I shot many deer, moose, elk, and coyote with it.

It came to a bad end. I sold it to a fellow I had roomed with as part of economizing when I went to university. I lost touch with him but found out through a mutual friend that the fellow that bought it got into a drunken armed standoff with the RCMP in Saskatchewan. He did jail time and the rifle was seized and destroyed.

Many years and and two wives later I found another BBR in 30-06 at P&D for very reasonable money. The metal and bluing was 98% and the shiny urethane finish was worn, but the walnut and checkering were excellent. I bought it, stripped the urethane off, oiled it and put a Leuopold VX3 scope on it. It is my go-to hunting rifle right now. It is a '77 and the stock profile isn't as quite as nice as the original one I had, but I have no complaints. Very much a BBR fan.

Also in the early 80's I had a short action, heavy barrel Sako in .222 Remington. That was very sweet too.

Depends on the application or purpose of ownership for me. In terms of Accuracy, my hands-down best would be my CADEX Guardian Light .308:

In terms of my best historical piece, it is a close competition between my WW1 Ross M10, my WW2 MP43 Sturmgewehr, or my unissued 1950 Long Branch SMLE No4 Mk1. The Ross wins for its Canadian uniqueness:

For my most "iconic" rifle, I had to choose between my Russian AKMS (most prolific Russian baby-killer), C.A.L. FNC1A1 (Cold War "Right Arm of the Free World"), or the "evil black rifle" of the moment, my Colt Canada SA 15.7 "C8 FTHB" service carbine clone. The oh, so scary "AR15" carries the day:

In terms of rarest pieces, there is no question - my 1960 Artillerie Inrichtingen AR10, of which only 10,000 were produced and fielded worldwide:

My best all-round rifle is a tough one, as this is in many ways my current "go to" gun. Restricted versus non-Restricted is not a big deal for me as I am in a wheelchair and am therefore confined to hard-stand conventional ranges. With that in mind, for general "fun gunning" it was a bit of a toss-up betweem my 10.5"-barrelled ACR, my Christensen Arms CA10, HK MR223A3, or the new kid on the block, a SIG Virtus in .300 B/O. And the winner is? The SIG Virtus! What a hoot to shoot in terms of minimal recoil and muzzle-rise, but with serious down-range punch out to 300(+) meters. Impressively accurate, as well., I would not hesitate to enage medium-sized game with this round. I am still messing around with different factory loads, but so far the Virtus in .300 Black/Whisper shows great promise as an all-round, do-all carbine effective to at least 300 meters:

RBROS 6.5X47. Fit and finish is very good. Accuracy is awesome. Travis was excellent to work with and the build was done 3 months sooner than I expected. Now I just need to wait till our dollar gets close to par so I can buy another one.

Not unique by any standard and not even near the most expensive gun in the stable but I would have to say my T3 Lite Stainless .30-06, topped with talleys and a bushnell 3200 3-9x40. It has knocked down more game than anything else I own. It's the go to in bad weather it gets slagged through mud/snow/rain/sleet and keeps on going. It's accurate and reliable and I trust it when I have to lay the hammer down. Thought of upgrading the scope on it or even upgrading the rifle itself to a Sako 85 but what would I gain? maybe some internal tears if I scratched or dinged it and would it really do any better probably not. Too many memories with it now to ever see her go she's a keeper. So for these reasons it is the best rifle I ever bought.

I have a few nice and not so cheap rifles but the one that fits me best and one of the best shooters that i have is a CZ 550 FS in 9.3x62, it is just an amazing shooter and fits me just right.

Best? I don't know.

The best shooting factory rifle is a Tikka 695 300winmag stainless synthetic. I haven't found a factory or reload that it didn't shoot well. The trigger is user adjustable and excellent.

Best fun rifle is an early Win M1886 45-70 rebarreled with a new 26" heavy octagon. Crescent butt plate and all.

Favourite carry rifle is a Husqvarna 640 FN98 9.3x57. I don't really know why.

Best rimfire gopher gun is an early Ruger 77/22. It needed a trigger job but otherwise good quality out of the box.

It goes on from there - the concept of "best" is fluid. I have maybe a dozen favourite rifles and the circumstances determine what the "best" one is on any given day.

BSA CF2 in 6.5x55....turned out to be a real gem.

I was somewhat relieved when that one sold, it was very tempting but I would have needed another gun cabinet, which of course would have space for several more guns that I won't have time to shoot enough ...

Not bought, but traded...

My 1974 vintage Marlin 336 in 35 Rem! It's 'the best' simply because it appeals to me.

Cheers
Jay

It's the rifle with the scope in this pic...
