best rim fire bolt action rifle advice

CZ's are nice but hands down for fit and finish I'm going to say sako quad. The hunter and range models are the nicest but all around fantastic rim fires.

You can fight over rifles, I've said it over and over again the best scope you can buy for the money is a bushnell banner 4-12 x 40 a/o. I've looked through better scopes but for years it's all I've used. Warranty service in ontaro!

I guess I might as well throw this in too, I'm awful partial to savage made in Canada.

I am inclined to agree, if you get the older Japanese or Korean-made units. The Chinese made units sold by Walmart are not the same quality. I returned one I bought last year as the elevation adjustment did not work. The two Korean Banner 4-12 x 40AOs I have from 15 years ago, bought together with my CZ452 Style and Varmint are still perfect.

They are made in China now? Perhaps i need to stop suggesting them. I had a japanese one that was excellent. Had a problem and they exchanged it for a Korean one which seemed as good.

you can buy the cz rings off the canadian website of the Brazilian jungle, ship direct from talley, not too expensive either.

I have only 5 22lr rifles, but to equip them with the likes of Leupold scopes would have taken away too much cash from ammo purchases.

My Savage MK2F shot some awesome 1 inch groups (5 shots) at 100 meters with Dynapoint GT black box bulk. Calm morning, sun was perfectly positioned I could see the bullet arcing through their trajectory into Point of Aim. 3 out of 5 groups. IIRC, that was 8 yrs ago. Flyers are unavoidable with cheap bulk ammo...I could actually see the flyers hit way off the POA.

These gorups were shot with a aid of an older Bushnell Sportview 3-9 x 32AO, that came with the MK2F for $200 shipped. What made it even more remarkable was that, it was I behind the bench and sandbags.

What I am saying is don't get caught up in the scope/rifle (equipment) game/race. You already have a decent rifle. Get a decent 200-250$ scope like a Nikon rimfire with AO. Or if you're lucky, lurk in the Optics EE forum for an old Bushnell Banner or Sportview 4-12 x 32 (40) AO. Then learn how to shoot your combo properly, using basic rifle bench rest techniques. Spend the extra available cash on ammo.

My 452 Style with Bushnell Banner (Korea) 4-12x40AO shot similar groups with same ammo on the same day.

Flyers always count. Always. There are no mulligans in shooting. None. That's why cheap bulk ammo should be avoided when anything like bragging rights are involved.;)

I've got one of those cheesy Landry savages......I say cheesy cause it punches lots of holes in yellow paper. I don't spend time trying to hit the 2" circle.....I spend my time cutting it out......from 80 yards away.
I've got a reasonable 4-12 from vortex on it.....picked it up via Australia. It's been a blast so far.

If you want a real bargain, there's a Marlin 925 in excellent condition on the EE for 275$ shipped!! Accurate, reliable and leaves you some cash for a good scope.

CZ 452 or 455. I have two 455 Varmints in .17 HMR and a 452 Varmint in .22lr and they are all fantastic rifles and very accurate. Get yourself one and you will not regret it.

As for the mount/rings/scope, go with the old "buy once, cry once". Get a nice Sightron SII or SII Big Sky and you'll be set (my two 455s wear Sightrons). As for the mount/rings, I am very happy with the DIP rail and Burris Signature Zee Rings.

Having said that, my 452 wears a Bushnell Legend HD w/ side focus and it's mounted on CZ rings. Not a bad setup, but the quality of glass pales in comparison to the Sightrons.

If you settle on a 452 and can't find one, let me know. I may have to part with mine to raise funds for a new project, lol.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your search!

I would love to have back my old Annie 1416 double set trigger.
Selling it is one of my all time biggest regrets. Even if I sold it for a premium price at the time. But that is how you learn.

I bought an Anschutz 1613 about 8 years ago for $750. Was shooting a lot of ISSF 3P at the time. Thought it was a bitter price to pay for a 30 year old gun. It was almost an impulse buy. Got it home and started looking things up after the fact and realized that it came with almost $800 worth of optics and accessories. First time I had it out people were offering me over a grand for it. Made me feel a lot better.

It may not be the best, but it's the best boltgun I have, a CZ 452 Varmint.
I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great quality accurate rifle.
I bought the rifle unfired from a gentleman on the EE, he had two for sale, the other was used.
I purchased the extended mag release, a screw set, and a DIP rail from Kinneys.
I bought a Yodave kit and used the lightest spring. My trigger weight is a safe 11 0unces.:)
My rings are High Burris Signature Zee Rings from Mystic Precision. I love how the inserts protect my scope.
The scope is a Sightron S-TAC 4-20x50 30mm with side focus parallax adjustment from Hirsch Precision.
I love the versatility of using it at 4 power offhand, and having the higher magnifications for the bench, or prone shooting.

This picture is crap, I have to get the rifles outside for a little photo session.
