Ive always been a huge fan of small center fires but have enough in the collection and now am wanting to try a rimfire. Im kinda stuck on deciding between a Ruger 10/22 heavy barrel laminte or a Savage HB laminate??
I like the idea of a semi auto but know they usually are not as accurate as a bolt.
What rimfire would you take with a budget of around $500 max.??

Cheers!!

CZ 452 (American/Varmint or Silhoutte) or Savage MK2 (BV, BVT, or FV) are great choices, can't really compare 10/22 in stock format to either one in terms of accuracy.
I own all three, and find the CZ most consistantly accurate and least picky then closely behind is my Savage and then my target 10/22. CZ has smoothest action and feed, and comes out on top for me. I do have a new barrel to try in my 10/22 so will see how that goes.

Got the CZ452 American and don't regret it. Doesn't need a heavy barrel to be accurate, and the gun is light and slim, feels good in the hands. Its the kind of gun that you can shoot all day. I've tried heavier guns on gopher shoots and I don't enjoy them as much. With American Eagle hollow points, I get very good accuracy and gopher killing power at a cheap price.

I'll chime in for the CZ 452 Varmint. Make sure to get a trigger kit from Eric Brooks - It made a huge difference in mine. One item to consider - if you purchase anything other than the CZ American - you'll have to buy CZ rings - or Weaver 11mm adapters.

I got a Browning buckmark rifle and now am selling off all my other 22's and have got another Browning on the way. I love the feel and it,s a blast to shoot.

CZ without a doubt. Pick whichever flavour suites you best. I personally like the varmint, but I've had an american and enjoyed it as well. Either a Lux or more likely a Fullstock is on my list of guns to buy someday... the iron sights these two models come with are some of the best you'll find on a reasonably priced rimfire.

Go used. As much as I love my savage, no fancy stock can put a cheap Savage or 10/22 in the same class as an old BRNO, or CIL/Anschutz 180 or 190. Or the Browning T-Bolt. Or Buckmark carbine. Or any one of a dozen different Remington 5-series bolt guns.

There is a Rem 541T in the EE right now for $450. No connection here but I have had 3 - all were good rifles. The CZ is good also as has been said - unless you want the pray-and-spray feature, you'll be hard-pressed to get the same consistency even with parts replacement with a semi-auto.
The novelty wears off fast, then you'll want accuracy!

Sorry for my ignorance, I am also on the market to build up a nice target rifle. I had heard great reviews for the CZ and have decided to go Varmint, but can someone tell me the difference between the 452 and 453? Is it grade of wood and finish?

Scott R. hope you don't mind me jumping on your post....

Difference is in the trigger (453 being a set type) and action attachment points. The 452 varmint has 1 action screw and 1 barrel screw attachment and 453 is attached with 2 action screws, allowing the barrel to free float. In which case it can be speculated that the 453 will be more accurate if all things are equal, but it has not be observed yet to conclude that. :nest:

I just, JUST, picked up a CZ 452 V and can't wait to take it out. I finally own a real 22 and not a toy.

I bought a Glock too, so between the two I have a lot of shooting to catch up on.

Hey Scot, a lot depends on what you are using the rifle for. If I was soley going to shoot targets or hunt then likely a quality bolt like the CZ or the savage. In my case I wanted an acurrate rifle but one I could blast away with too. Some times its just plain fun to hurl lead.......... Anyway, I also wanted some thing different. So I picked up a 10/22T with the thumb hole stock. It is likey not as accurate as the CZ but hey, it is to be a fun toy to.

I have a Bushy Elite 3200 3-9x40 and some Leopold 1" dovetail rings. Should be adequate for any 22lr.
Can't wait for work to end. Need to go shooting!!!
