OK I'm still looking for a scope for my rimfire...every time I think I found 'the one' turnes out it's crap :eek: :(

this is what I'm looking at;

Bushnell Sportsman 3-9x40 (72-3940M) $73 > info
Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 3-9x40 (71-3946) $90 > info
Tasco World Class 3-12x40 (MAG312x40) $82 > info
Tasco World Class 3-9x40 Illumitated (MAG3940IR) $79 > info
Tasco Target/Varmint 2.5-10x42 Mil-Dot (VAR251042M) $80 > info

which one would you get?

(btw anything I missed that would be a better choice? I want something ~3-9+ x 40mm+);

NormB, I said "BEST" scope for $90! I realise I can't get a quality of a $1000 scope for $90 :rolleyes: and I'm not trying to. I just want the best I can get for the money, nothing more nothing less... afterall it's going on a $200 rimfire ;)

Either get a fixed rimfire specific scope, or one with an AO. I like my banner 4-12X40AO. The legend scopes are ok too!

My thoughts exactly!

The Banner 4-12 is a very good .22 scope. Cost is about $130 a Wally's. You really do need AO if you want to shoot at a variety of distances with a .22.

As 7.62 says - most scopes are set for 100y+ parralax. Some 22 scopes are 50 y, otherwise an AO scope is the way to go.

How about the Bushnell Banner 3-9 X40 with AO for about 120 large?

I know this isn't what you were looking at but I think the best chance of getting a good scope at a decent price is to stick with a 4x and avoid the variables..if you have ever had a low price variable apart ... it will be apparent why.

The Scopechief line from Bushnell have been pretty fair and often you can find a
good deal. They used to make fixed and variable (I have an old 1.5-4.5 Scopechief on a 35 Whelan that performs very nicely BTW) I would be looking in that direction personally.

(You can minimize/eliminate the effect of parallax by ensuring you keep your eye centered on the reticle fwiw)

Would you like to give some details?
Paralax is set at the factory by focus of the objective. Objective is focused by moving it in or out via a threaded insert. Some of these inserts are accessible through removing the OB rinfg, some have recesses inside the front hood for an adjustment tool.

Erect a target at the paralax range you desire, and move the insert in or out until focus is crisp....you have just set paralax for that range.

I have the 4-12x40 AO banner.
Its pretty good, I liked it.
But I wanted more magnification so I got a 6-24x40 AO banner.
The 4-12 banner is good.

I have used the Bushnell Sprtsman and Banner on my rimfires

and higher calibers for years. Never had a problem. My brother had a small

problem on a used Banner he bought at a gun show. Brought it to the depot

here in Toronto. Got another one brand new over the counter, no questions

asked. I'll keep buying them.

FWIW, I have the 2.5-10x42 Tasco Varmints on my 10/22 and CZ. Yeah, they're aren't mega dollar scopes but they perform well for me and I am a satisfied customer. I also know of many others who are happy with theirs as well and some of these guys have 'em on their centrefire rifles. I found the Varmint 6-24x42 a little 'dark' when compared to the 2.5-10.....YMMV.
