Best scope for $90?

Keep your eyes open on the Equipment Exchange. I got a Bushnell Sportsman 3x9x40 that is brand new for $35. I didn't want to put a $500+ scope on a $250 .22 for my kid. It will do just fine, I think.

If you've got the money, if you are going to be putting it on a $500+gun, or if you plan on entering competitions, yeah, put an expensive scope on it. Otherwise, a plinking/gopher gun will do just fine with a cheaper scope. I wouldn't buy a $15 Tasco, but the $70-$100 scopes should do just fine.

I've bought WAY too many cheap scopes over the years, and of those you mentioned I would definitely fo with the Bushnells, or Simmons as others have mentioned. That Tasco mil-dot model, in particular, is truly crap.

Wrong Way, thanks for that parallax tip! Forty years of shooting and I've never heard that before. I'm gonna try it tonight.

tasco 6x24 AO

I have 4 of the cheap 6x-24x AO scopes by tasco....one on a cz .222 one on a ruger 30/06 one on a 788 rem .308 and one on a #3 Ruger 45/70..I use them for load development accuracy ,which in my case involves finding an accurate load for every bullet weight the cartridge has available ie: 30/06.....71 grains to 220 Jacketed and cast...... etc for the other calibers.

The scopes are about 4 years old and have in some instances over a thousand rounds of 45/70 ,153 gr. to 500 gr, from 200 fps to 2000 fps through them with no problems.
The .308 and 30/06 about 700 a piece and the .222 only 500 ish without any problems either...

That being said ,the 5th one I purchased for going rate of under $100 , January 2007 lasted 60 rounds and quit. No left to right adjustment..just froze up a few weeks ago. Perhaps .416 Rem 365 gr. Cast bullets at 2000 fps and 300 gr barnes at 2800 fps was asking too much....Will get to see if the limited lifetime warranty is true..

On a .22 RF it should last a long time.......

hs45/70.........your mileage may vary

Of your choices, I'd got with the Tasco Target/Varmint 2.5-10x42mm mil-dot. I've got a couple of them. One currently on a Rem Model 7 in .223 that gives very good service:

With econo Winchester white-box .223 45 gr HP ammo from Wal-Mart @ 100 yards:

btw I was also looking at B-Square 3-9x40 (compact scope?) that comes with mounts. Should I've picked it instead?

90 bones to burn

go the second hand route an old weaver K4 or for 90 bones get a red dot picked up a simmons for 50 bucks and its devistating on chickens.:canadaFlag:

I have a 4x bushnell on a .22. Over 8000 rounds and not an issue. Paid like $60.00 new. Best bang for no buck from my experience

I tested my new the Tacso 2.5-10x 42 Mil-Dot with AO a few days ago, it worked just fine and so far I have no complaints about it...:)

I bought an almost new Mueller APV 4.5x14x40AO from someone off here for $80 and it appears to hold a bit on an edge over the Bushnell/Tasco's in the $80-$120 price range.

Unless you have a cheap rimfire I'd look at spending $200-$300 on decent optics. Perhaps an Elite or a Weaver or Leupold rimfire. That's what i'm doing from now on anyway.

NormB, I said "BEST" scope for $90! I realise I can't get a quality of a $1000 scope for $90  and I'm not trying to. I just want the best I can get for the money, nothing more nothing less... afterall it's going on a $200 rimfire ;)

You can get a high quality scope that's every bit as good the leupolds I have for $90 but you can not get a new one. I have a Kollmorgen 4x mounted on a 45/70 that's as new and cost me $80 on ebay, and a Bushnell Scopechief 3-9 x 40 also as new on my P14 that cost $81. All the Kollmorgens have first class optics, but with the Scopechiefs it's important to get a Japanese made one with the BL ( (Bauch & Lomb ) mark on the tube. I will never spend more than $100 on a scope again.
