BEST scope for a CZ452 16" (money no object)

Since you will be using it as a field rifle, and since the effective range of 22LR is limited, I'm curious as to why you are not considering smaller magnifications.

Personally, I use a 1-4x scope, which provides both rapid target acquisition at closer ranges, and better precision at longer ranges.
I see that the March scopes have one model with 1-10x magnification, which seems to be highly versatile (albeit with a small objective, so light-gathering capability may be an issue).

Why are we waiting time on this...........if you want advice take it and if you don't agree fine but don't slam it! If you want to tac a 1500 scope on a 500 dollar rifle feel free. cripes!!!!!

I agree with you with the idea of putting quality glass on a rimfire since that's probably the gun you'll get the most use of. Same thing goes with nice quality rings...

My favorite rimfire scopes are the Leupold 3.5x10 AO and the 1.5-5x... I know you don't like Leupold, that's OK, that's what I like ;).

One thing that bugs me with Euro scopes is their lack of AO... unless you want a 56mm objective or 6x-24x powe range...

Given your insistance for a Euro scope, my vote would go for a Kahles Elia CL 2-7x or 3-9x, I know the 30mm tube scopes are "nicer", but I personnaly find they look funny on the smaller rimfire actions. Just like I don't like 2 foot long 6-24x scope on a rimfire...

Just my 2 cents,
Mike.

Having the "BEST" scope which it seems you want, is not going to improve the capabilities of yourself nor your gun. the effective shooting distance is limited by bullet weights and small projectiles. I have 3x9x by 40 scopes on all my .22s and they have been more than adequate for my gopher days. Out to 200 yards with lucky shots and deadly at about 75 yards. My old 50 year old Lakefield Mark II bolt action put over 500 under in a 4 day weekend. Taking the time practicing, not buying the best, will improve your end results.

Leupold EFR scopes are excellent in .22 rimfires. I know you don't want a Leupold. But the reality is they are an exceptionally tough scope to beat for rimfire. I don't own any Leupold scopes for my centerfires (I opted for NF and Zeiss Conquest instead) but I have two of the EFR scopes on my target .22 bolt actions. The AO which allows you to go down to 10 feet is worth it's weight in gold for rimfires. You can shoot them anywhere. Most centerfires will only have AO down to 50 or maybe 30 yards. The Bushnell Elite line may go down less (I'm not positive). Also the Falcon Menace line has good AO settings for Rimfire. But.... the Leupold EFR line is better.

The best scope for your rimfire considering it's not a dedicated benchrest rig is the Leupold EFR. Take it for what it's worth. You asked.

thanks for the pointers guys.. im not trying to be an ass. and i dont know exactly what scope i want, hence the post here.. i know in general what im looking for. but im looking for the ideal combination..

and yes i know a great scope wont help me shoot any better.. but as ive said ive always had good glass on my rifles, so i dont want to step down in quality..
and yes its a $500 rifle. but from previous experience with CZ rimfires it will outshoot guns costing 4x more. and will certainly out perform the human holding it. the only way to improve on that would be using a full bench rest support. which i wont be doing. most shooting will be off hand or from a bipod..

for rings i will be using Sportsmatch mounts.

did i ever say i was looking for the scope to improve me??? i practice plenty thank you, but i am also fortunate in that i can afford to buy quality..

i am well aware of the limitations of the .22lr.. but as i said ive always used good scopes, and this rifle will be my daily shooter. so why shouldnt i give my eyes the best?

your view on things would be better applied to the once yearly hunter who spends a fortune on a hunting rig but NEVER practices and just goes out and fills his tag, with complete disregard for his shooting skill which leads to poor shot placement and injured animals..

im looking for a quality item that i will keep for life, and will be used 10,000's of times.. is that a bad thing? i'm a believer in buy right first time..

smaller mag is fine i agree. however its nice to have the magnification for the longer shots at small targets.. but id like the flexibility to have high and low mag in the same scope. which can degrade the quality of the image, hence the desire to have a high end scope so this isnt an issue..

But if you have that kind of money to put down on a scope, I'd consider upgrading to an anshutz first.

if anschutz did a 16 inch barrel rifle i would. this will be used as a pest control rifle having used the 16inch one a lot back in the uk they are the perfect carry gun.. but to be honest having used anschutz in the past, yes they are more accurate on a bench rest with match ammo.. but for general shooting the cz's will do sub 1 inch groups at 70m from a bipod and that is fine.. and shooting off hand without supports i can shoot the cz just as well as a match rifle, as its the human that is the limiting factor not the gun..

Money not a factor, then get a sako or:D cooper:D;)
Here is how i see it, bore, trigger , and optics , all need to be good, loose one you lost em all. 22 , fine x hair nice, leupold 3x9x33 rimfire, bottom line , get a scope that is for rimfires, and their are many, look at weight of scope, size, conditions, how it will effect ballance, and on and on.............

I have a leupold FX-II 2.5X20mm ultra light which is the cats ass for rimfire.

Anschuetz has a rifle with a 14" barrel, although I'm not sure if it's available here:

hadnt spotted that one before. thanks. ive contact a dealer to see if they can get it.. i prefer two stage triggers anyway... i just hope it will take normal 5 shot mags too. that 10 shot one looks strange on that rifle.

Did you find anything out about the availability of the one?
