Best scope for high power silhouettes

Our group of shooters regularly shoot small bore and highpower both here and in Ridgway Pa. As suggested by BUM , The vast majority shoot 6.5 -20 Leupolds with a few straight 24x . The recent equipment surveys from the NRA Nationals, Sierra Classic and Lapua super shoot all show the same results with over 80% shooting the 6.5-20 Leupolds

Probably with target dots? And not side focus?

you would be correct, and the 6.5-20 EFR scope has long since been discontinued, finding a scope that will focus down to the 40 meter mark is tough, the runner up to this scope would have been sightron's 6-24 target dot scope, and again discontinued as is their silhouette modeled 6-24 scope, side focus is not going to cut it on the silhouette course

There are a number of side focus scopes that will focus down to 25yds and closer.

But it falls back to how large is the budget, how much weight can you spare and mag range desired.

When I did small bore silh, I moved to a 36X and it helped. Other top shooters were moving to 42X's. OP may not want a mag that high?????

There will a new Sightron ED 45X45 weighing a feathery 20.5oz in 2018.. Likely cost a few rubles but DANG, that would be alot of scope.

So it still depends on the above questions.

You're in a good place, the Bull River Shooters Association club and range in Cranbrook is without much doubt the best silhouette club and range in Canada. They/we are hosting the BC Provincials this coming Victoria Day long weekend. We hosted the Nationals last year and had over 90 shooters. Send me a PM if you want more info.

The Leupold 6.5-20 EFR is a great way to start (and it is still in production) as it covers the typical magnifications wanted and as importantly the EFR lets you dry-fire practice in your basement which is a VITAL part of improving.

The Leupold 25X and 30X silhouette scopes are also still available, and are 3-4 oz lighter. But they are not a good choice for most beginners. Safe to say you will want to start with lower power.

Are you sure these scopes are not discontinued. I’ve looked for all of them in the past week and couldn’t find any of them and was told by multiple sight sponsors they were unavailable. Even the Sightron 6-24X42 with target dot reticle has been discontinued.

The 6.5-20EFR? I bought a new one less than six months ago.

I expect they are limited production. I suggest you give Korth in Okotoks a call and put your name on one.

Check your PMs. That one is fine duplex, and most of us prefer a dot in the half minute range, but you can't beat the price.

Bashaw sports may have limited stock, however when the serial number of the last one they sold was run through Korth for warranty on missing pieces the new owner was informed it did not come through them and warranty would have to go through leupold usa.......

No question, Korth has a hammerlock on Leupold scopes in Canada. They are of course the only Canadian distributor, and they're also the warranty center. Anything produced in roughly the last 10 years, if it doesn't come in through them, they won't touch it and it has to go to Oregon.

That said however their new scope tech Tyler is great to deal with.

OP, sent you a PM. There is the purpose built Leupold FX3 25X and higher mag but I would not opt for a fixed 35-36 power for silhouette. My hold is not that good and nothing like hitting a target and being all proud of yourself and then finding out you shot the wrong order or worse crossed over into another bank.

That hasn't been the case for about 2 years. People need to stop repeating this ####.

Leopoldo product part number please. Jeff

The Leupold VX-3i 6.5-20x40mm EFR is back (or still) in the Leupold lineup. SKU 170885.

Appears to come with the fine duplex reticle, but it should be straightforward to have Korth replace it with one of the Leupold dots.
