best scope for the money

3-9 x 40 Leupold VX11

Agreed. I've used an Elite 3000 3-9x40 on my 300WM for 10 years. I get by with it just fine but you might find the eye relief a little short at 9x depending how you're rifle fits you. A Leupold would eliminate that concern.

I'd either go with a used leupie vx (or even vari-x) 3, OR if i were buying new, i'd really check out that mueller tac-2. Gotta be one of the best value-for-dollar scopes i've seen.

It is near impossible to beat quality for the money you will pay for an Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 for around 400.00$ you will not be dissapointed. You will pay alot more for others of equal quality.

The Burris Fullfield II is tough to beat, especially for the price. Prices however vary considerably. Last fall, I found brand new ones for $200. In other stores the same scope ranged from $250 to $300. You'll have to shop around for the best price.

All the above suggestions are great, however I have been using Vortex for the last year and I am very pleased I made the switch. Very good optics for the price, and a great warranty too. Check them out...

I'll second the Vortex. I have a 2-8X32, and I sat behind a 6.5-20X50 tonight for a couple of shots. Very impressed with both, especially for the money. Every bit as good as my Leupolds. (VXll and VXlll)

The newest pricing on the Zeiss conquest is rediculous $788.00, wasn't that long ago the were $499.00, not a bad buy. FS

No kidding. The 6.5-20x 50mm scopes I bought last year have gone up almost $400 each :(. Then again Leupold prices have also jumped up, so the Conquest line is still the same price or slightly cheaper than the Leupold. NF also comes to mind. It's getting pretty ridiculous. Especially during a recession/depression.
