Best scope for under $1000?

If it's for a hunting rifle and not for a fish bonker the vx3hd 4.5-14 is a great optic.

There’s a 3-10 x 40 vx3 HD ZL/CDS 30 mm tube with a fire dot , going for $800 ,at a local store.
Also 4.5 - 14 x 40 VX 3 HD ZL/CDS. “1” tube with a wind Plex reticle,going for $900, I think.

No side parallax though

I have athlon optics helos BTR GEN2 2-12x42 moa on a Tikka Battue in 308. This scope is shorter than a lot of other scopes so it fits the rifle with its ramp rear sight. I have been very pleased with it.

Wondering how you like this scope when shooting out at distance? Is 12x enough to shoot out to 500+ yards?

As far as scopes under $1000 I have a vortex viper pst 4-16 FFP and Leupold vx3i 4.5x14 SFP. New updated versions can be found for under $1000. I notice a much clearer brighter image in the Leupold. It also weighs almost half as much as the Vortex. You also get a custom turret included with the scope. I’d say the Leupold definitely out preforms the Vortex even though I’d prefer it to be FFP. The Leupold’s parallax has no yardage markers, only a sliding scale which is another flaw. Nice having a quick reference to get to the right yardage with parallax. Lastly I would make sure you go to a store, or order from a store with a good return policy. Best to get your hands on the scope and see how it feels and if you like the features. Also nice to go at dusk/dark days to see how they preform in low light.

german and austrian scopes are or have been used for many decades on hunting scopes so now it is maybe the tax tac for some products but when i was hunting chamois and roe deer i never been able to do it properly with ffp ones and a leupold was always doing the trick at that time ...

It was all the Germans offered for years and North Americans #####ed and moaned about FFP. Then everyone started wanting to be in JTF3 and FFP became de rigeur with people shooting christmas tree reticles and claiming that they were ranging things by doing math.

I don’t have too much experience with all the different brands (mostly leopold and vortex) but I would reiterate that at the distances you’re shooting you will probably not want to go more than 4x on your bottom end. At close range you usually need to find your target quickly. Also after the shot you want to be able to see what happened.

High magnification is great for pinpoint accuracy but it’s no fun when your struggling to find your target and then it’s a shaky patch of fur.

Priced right at $1K, you will not find a higher quality optic than the Arken EP5. This is Arken's flagship scope featuring Japanese glass and some of the best Turrets in the business. Excellent image quality, First Focal Plane, 32 mils of internal adjustment, zero-stop, Illumination, 34mm Tube, 56mm Objective, and more. Check out the YouTube reviews comparing the Arken to optics worth double to three times the price...
