Best scope for under $500.00 - rimfire

I have one of these on my Sako Quad and like it. I think I may get the reticle changed to the Rimfire MOA and put it on my 10/22 build.
 
The Freedom EFR has all the right specs, but simply hasn't been proven yet. It's quite a bit cheaper than the "old" scope too, so one can't help but wonder why. A used VX-2 3-9X33 EFR rimfire is still the right tool for the job IMO, if you can find one.

The 4-12 AO is a good scope as well, but it isn't the right tool if you ever shoot indoors at short range.

I put the same scope on my CZ 455 Supermatch as well - paid about the same at Cabelas in the summer. Super happy with it so far - although, I need to find a cheek riser, that scope has to sit quite a ways up on my rifle (adapter rail + medium rings).

That's from an email I received from them.
 
So I went to the range and tested the VX-Freedom 2-7 rimfire.

The good:
- Compact
- light
- crystal clear glass
- fine crosshairs, very good for the .22
- BDC reticle

The not so good:
- The bdc is very crowded, the hash marks are way to close to another it is almost impossible to use them effectively.

The bad:
- nothing so far.
 
I received my VX-2 back from Korth, it had a sticky power ring and is as good as new now (I didn't get the reticle changed). I then phoned Prophet River and ordered the VX Freedom 3-9 EFR and some rings.
 
Ive got a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 with the deadhold BDC reticle on my 10/22 and liked it enough I bought a Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40 with the same reticle for my big dumb 10/22 (JRC 9mm) thinking it was the same scope. I find them to be very similar as far as size weight and utility. They were both about $250 when I bought them and seem good for the price.
 
Lueplold on one Nixon on the other both tricked out with all kid parts .. my preference is the Nixon and it’s cheaper . I know your not looking to save money on your build but that’s my half peso
 
I have a couple pairs of Nikon binoculars and they definitely have nice glass, for the scopes I just haven't seen a reticle I like in them yet.
 
I have both versions of the rimfire scopes. The freedom is not better glass other than slightly brighter image. More light coming through the scope which helps obviously. Resolution is probably not that much different
 
I run the Cabela's Covenant 6-24x50mm FFP on my Savage Mk 2 heavy barrel. Great scope for the money, especially when they are on sale!
