Bushnell blows, I wouldn't use one for a tomato stake:D

Leupold all the way, you do get what you pay for.

I will admit to liking the old Redfield's, but I don't have them on any big kickers.
IMHO the Leupold VX-3 in a 1.5-5 is the ultimate scope.

Just my $.03

Pickles,
Which of your cannons have you run the 1.5-5 on? Your old beast is quite happy with it's new Limbsaver and Leupold 2.5x by the way. A couple hundred rounds later it's printing little bitty groups of great big holes.:D

Had the 1.5-5 on the Rigby for awhile, moved it to a 7 lb 338WM.
Settled on the 2.5x Leupold. Have heard nothing but good on these scopes.
Apparently the only way to break them is with a hammer!:D

Pickles,
Well, I never tried a hammer but haven't been able to break any Leupold, ever. That's saying something. Did you hear about the new VX7's coming out in the New year? Big dollars.

True north,
If someone would have offered me a $179 Leupold in trade for 3-9 3000 B&L Elites I would have snapped that up pretty fast. I sold those for $100 and lucky to get it. I'll take the last one off my 10 year old kid's gun if you or anyone else want that deal. Used is OK. The $600 plus tax 4200 6-24 I traded off got me $250. I pity the poor guy that bought that POS. As far as I know that was the most expensive scope in the lineup at that time. It broke on a .22 rimfire. Yep, real good stuff.

Some of you guys are talking loco, and it scares me. How can anyone rate Bushnell superior to Leupold? No habla!
Granted that alot of you have had good/great experiences with your bushnells. The fact that alot more have had less than impressive results rates bushnell as having mixed reviews. Now show me how many people have had their leupolds crap out.

Ebert & Roeper would rate the bushnell as 2 reluctantly wavering thumbs up. While the Leupolds would be one of their Oscar pick of the year.

You heard it here first. Dont make me say it again.:dancingbanana:

LFD
A upper end Bushnell is superior to a lower end Leupold. For example: A Bushnell 3200 vs a Rifleman. Both Leupold and Bushnell are competitive lines in the U.S. and the Bushnell products are priced just a little bit lower than their respective Leupolds.
VX-III's are a tad more than a 4200 and VX-II's more than a 3200. So if you run out and buy a Rifleman(in Canada), I feel all you have done is let yourself in for an ass pounding at the hands of the Canadian distributor, and ended up with a Trashco and a killer warranty.

PM answered.:D The reason that bushnells have a comparable price in the States is that they have a duty charged on them when they are imported, and the Leupolds don't, being made there. It amazes me that they sell any.

Is that why the Leupolds are so expensive up here? Is there some sort of a surcharge put on them when they cross the border? It amazes me how they sell any here.

There should not be any duty on US made goods coming to canada ,thats why
we sent all our manufacturing jobs to mexico for via the NAFTA.
We are a much smaller market than the US and sometimes we pay a premium for
goods (particularly cachet brands) that are popular in the US.
There is a thread about the awesome Kershaw Shun kitchen knives on the edged tools subthread where it is pointed out that the Shun chefs knife is 80$US and 200+$ in canada.

It's simple really, we're getting screwed. Our dealers know that scopes are considered considered gunparts and that legally an individual needs an American export permit. To get that you first get an import permit from the Canadian government. Most American outfits won't ship so much as a scope ring for fear of fines at their end, or just not not wanting to bother for such a small market. There are no duties to be paid at the border, but there is just enough pain in the a** involved that people won't do it. Did you ever notice that in the last while our dollar went up 30 cents against the american and the price of american goods never changed at retail here? That's not a manufacturer that screwed you over, it's your buddy at the gunstore or his supplier.

The fact that they sell any here is a testimony to the product. A lot of educated/experienced buyers believe that Leupold represents a bargain in rifle-scopes even at rip off pricing. Pay less, get a lot less. Pay more, get a little more. There is a point of diminishing returns per dollar in optics, and every last scope buyer out there thinks he's found it. Everyone thinks that everyone who paid more than him is retarded or status starved. The guys that paid less are throwing their money away on junk. Speaking of junk, this thread is helping me move mine. Anyone want a Simmons 6.5-20 AO with Target Turrets? Good as the day it was made.( It was a POS the day it was made) $100 and postage or will swap for $179 Leupolds.;)

Lets face it, if a particular scope failed most of us in the bush, when it came back from warranty it would not make it back on a serious big game gun. It sure as hell wouldn't on mine.I've seen a Leupold VX-III with a big condensation drop on the inside of the ocular lens. That does not mean I believe they all will suffer the same fate, but that an anomaly exists.
