Planning a trip to the city here in the next little bit, would like to pick up some quality 22lr ammo for the guns. I see you guys talking about Eley, ect ect. All I have access to in town in Canadian tire and Wal-mart. Not looking for anything specific, just some different stuff to try.

I was going to hit P&D and maybe WSS if you think they have a good variety. What do you think?

If it matters i'm feeding my 3 semi's a Rem 597, Mossberg Tact 22, and a Ruger MKIII Target.

I'm also open to suggestions on brands, stuff you like. I'm just stocking up some more for the spring, which is right around the damn corner!

P&D will have the best selection if not the best price...a couple bucks more a brick but I view it worth the price to support an awesome store. WSS is hit and miss on inventory.

"selection of 22lr ammo in Edmonton"

Now that's an oxymoron if I ever saw one. Wholesale is pathetic. Phoenix range is worse than pathetic. P&D has the odd package of Eley at an exorbitant price. They would look like you are from the moon if you ask for Lapua or SK. If you want target quality .22LR you need to check out Hirsch Precision or Target Shooting Products.

lapua, eley

Clayton at prophit river has the expensive stuff, I wasn't going to say anything until I checked my reserves though.

Does Prophet river have an actual store in Lloyd? Thanks for the info guys, I don't like paying way to much for stuff. I do that enough all year living up here.

:D 12 bucks a box of fifty or give or take

but hey you will never go back to that bulk junk again

not sure if they have a actual store though, they mail to BC

according to the website there was plans to open a retail store front.
send him a PM here and find out.

or Clay if your out there chime in

Is it prophet river? I've been to the other one (Magnum guns), very okay... prices not to bad... selection, great if you want bolt guns.... well not really.

If you can pick up some of the Winchester power points the are a very accurate hollow oint. When I worked at the old Wholesale store guys were buying case lots as soon as it arrived and we'd be sold out again.

If you are as serious about shooting as I get the feeling you are I have a different sort of suggestion.

While at Prophet River or P&D look at the many high quality bolt action .22 rifles currently being made. CZ for example makes some very high quality at at comparatively low price. There is not much point in paying high prices for top quality ammo that your semi auto rifles will not likley make much good use of. The rifles you mention are not known for a level of accuracy that would justify feeding them the expensive ammo, Save your money, with the possible exception of biathlon ammo which might function more reliably in any firearm in conditions of extreme cold.

If you ever tried combining quality match grade ammo with a highly accurate bolt action you would shoot fewer rounds but would get the satisfaction of having your shots strike with much greater precision. One through the X is more satisfying than ten rounds in ther nine and ten rings.

Good advice. Target ammo often will not even cycle in a semi. The Savage Mark II is another good bolt gun. Fit and finish not quite as good as the CZ, but the heavy barrel versions can shoot neck and neck with the CZ - with target ammo down to 1/4"-3/8" at 50 yards.

Yeah good call. I was looking at a Savage MKII 22lr, I have a 93R17 for the accurate work. I'll just burn up bulk on my 22's, if I get a bolt gun i'll pick up some good quality ammo.
