You did not give and 'other'. I would take a 375 H&H over any of those ones.

And what doses it mean; "Best grizzly buster."? Is he talking about hunting a grizzley or about stopping a charging grizz?

We had a Grizzly come into camp last week and rip down our hanging pole. I had my STW along and my .416 locked in the truck. I'm sure either would have worked but after seeing how pissed he was that he couldn't get the Deer loose I'd say the bigger the better. I'd taken the .416 for packing meat out but seriously considered useing it for the rest of the hunt. Ended up takeing my Deer at very long range after not being able to get closer so the STW worked out. In Grizzly country carry a Grizzly gun.

Marlin 1895 (no GG) with Garrett type of heavy hard cast ammo (500 grs plus)

peep or low power Leupold.

if limited to '06, I'd go for 220 -250 grs in bolt action of course.
No M1 Garand in spite of a strong bias for the grand lady.

My #1 choice would be Marlin 45/70 with 480gr. WFN GC from M.T. Chambers, going 1900fps, my gun holds 9 of 'em, no light(300-400gr.) bullets in this case.

Little off topick. Many people say 45/70 but not a Guide Gun - why is that and what is wrong with a Guide Gun (I was just considering buying one).

The last time I usd a shotgun was to stop a griz while he was charging a buddy. In a defence situation at close quarters, I'll take slugs in a pump any time.

The Alaskan forestry department wouldn't agree. They did a test a few years back, it's been posted here before. Anyway, slugs performed very very poorly, mostly due to insufficient penetration. I believe the 30-06 scored better than the 12 gauge. Certainly, though a 12ga is better than nothing. Especially given the rate of fire a pump gun is capable of, plus the fact that most shotguns have simple bead sights which are extremely quick to acquire with

Nothing; it's a good gun. A little more unique, perhaps, is a bolt action built on a siamese mauser, SMLE, or P14/17. They show up in the EE from time to time, and with the exception of the SMLE, they can tolerate quite a bit more pressure (i.e. power) than the GG. And that's already pretty respectable.

There are also bolt guns based on the 458x2", the 450 Marlin, or even the full blown 458 out there.

Also available is the Ruger No 1, which can take very warm loads in 45-70, for a bit more power. Not sure that a single shot is the best idea if you're expecting to shoot Yogi up close and personal
