Best Semi-Auto 22

I don't know if it's the best Semi-auto 22lr pistol, but my Ruger mkIII work everytime. It feed anything, even the cheapest rounds i can find and is enough precise too. I am sure it can make pretty descent groups with good quality ammunitions and an more experienced shooter than me.

Thanks for your opinion Faqmat... i dunno why i dont find the Ruger to be a very "Attractive" gun. I know that doesnt really matter... but it plays a role in my buying criteria. What do you think about the Walther P22?? Or the smith and wesson Model 41?

+1 on the S&W Model 41. I have an older one with the cocking indicator. It runs like clockwork and shoots like a laser.

The other plus is that they are very simple to field strip.

Avoid the Walther P22 like the plague. They're pot metal junk. Quite a few people have had issues with them.

I have had both pistols.. Ruger MkIII, which was my first handgun, and a S&W 41. My preference is the S&W 41 for a few reasons. The gun has a much better trigger unless you get an upgrade on the Ruger MkIII. And the S&W is easier to field strip than the Ruger, although you do get used to the Ruger after a few times. Both shot well with the S&W 41 being more accurate in my hands.. I would stick to an all metal gun, like these two, Polymer Pistols are more difficult to learn to shoot and was frustrating at times for a newbie like me.

For the price, Ruger. For better triggers and (?)accuracy, an older Browning medalist or a S&W 41. Mind you, I have one of the AMT copies of the MKII, the lightning, stainless and grooved for a scope. It shoots so well, I sold my Smith. 2lb trigger, and accurate beyond my abilities.

What do you mean by best?

Want a great shooting gun? Walther SSP

Something reliable and all round, Ruger Mk II/III

A target type then try a S&W 41, Beretta 89, High Standard Victor, Browning Medalist

Revolver, then a S&W 619 or Colt Diamondback

Lots and lots of choices, but I would consider the above as some of the best.

As for Walther P22, see http://www.thefiringline.(REMOVE)com/forums/showthread.php?t=172363.

Rugers are good but I would suggest to take a long, hard look on Browning Challenger II like this one:

They are about 300-400 bucks. Be aware that Challenger II and other earlier Browning models have steel frame.

FYI, apparently Challenger III and all later models like Buckmark have aluminum frame: "Every Buck Mark starts out as a solid piece of aircraft-grade 7075 aluminum alloy". Well, aluminum frame on any firearm is not my cup of tea, I am bit backward looking and prefer good old fashioned steel.

I've had a Walther P22....fun little gun to shoot and that's about it.

Traded it on a new Buckmark Target 5.5 and there's no comparison. I like the grip and feel as it's very similar to my 1911.

Found an very early model S&W M41 with the cocking indicator and it's tops in my book. I like shooting it best when I can find std target velocity ammo.

Don't own a Ruger .22 handgun......yet, and I'm not opposed to them either. I like the Single Six revolver....
