Buy a volquartzen. But let's be realistic, 1/2 MOA at 50m is not going to be a regular thing... A once off maybe. 1/2 MOA is basically the diameter of one small ragged bullet hole at 50m, roughly 1/4"... Most high end bolt guns can't do that regularly. Infact the only person I would believe COULD do that is Eagleeye with his suhl. No 10/22 is ever going to do that... I'm sorry.

A volquartzen should give you MOA all day though, given the right ammo and good conditions with good glass. Or save yourself $1000 and get a marlin (I can't help it). It'll do 1/2-3/4" at 50 no problem.

Check in the 50 yard challenge, there are 2. First gun in is a Volquartsen, a very costly rifle but made with care & good parts. The 2nd is a 10-22 tact. with complete replacement of internals & barrel. 1/2 inch at 50 is tough for me with a good bolt. Standard 22 ammo in not going to do it regularly. An auto makes it that much harder. Look up the groups & guns used in the challenge. Good luck.:)

I don't know much (OK, anything) about the semi-auto rimfire rifles, but as a thought exercise I'm going to assume the OP has unlimited resources. In my very uneducated opinion, and assuming you're basing this off a 10/22, I would probably do something like:

- Lightened trigger pull
- Aftermarket receiver (to support a heavier barrel)
- Heavy barrel
- A good, solid, bedded stock (and a free-floating barrel seems to be one way people increase accuracy)
- A bipod, or some way of using bags

I was also reading something about modifying the action so the gases vent earlier... I would probably figure out what ammunition would be most accurate, and then tune the action to just barely cycle with that ammunition. My logic would be that the less forcefully you're cycling the action, the less likely the barrel is to move off target. But, that could just be me. It also seems that a longer barrel tends to do better for accuracy, although I don't know if that would really apply to a range of only 50 yards.

Anyway, those are my uneducated thoughts... It's really me just pulling things out of my ass, but if I had the money I would happily build and test a platform like this.

1 word will save you money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Volquartsen
Cheaper route than 10/22 IMO, however I'm not a ruger fan at all.
Please look up 10/22 posts if you really are going that route.
Cost will be over $1000 not including the gun $350-400.

Who sells volquartsen guns in canada? Also I didnt know it was that hard to acheive that accuracy with a 10/22 my fvsr does 1/2 moa if I do my part.

If you can regularly shoot groups measuring 1/4" or less, at 50 yards, with a factory 22lr, you are doing far better than most shooters.

find a thompson center R-55 it will do it, for less money than most. I have had 7 that could all do that consistently with cheap eley sport. They left the factory with shillen match barrels. Shillen are among the best in the 22 bench rest game right now.

edit, sorry misread first post, my TC's could shoot 1/2" groups at 50 yards, NOT 1/2 moa, 2 shot 1/2 moa with eley black box, a good rest and 36 power scope, shooting one bullet at a time, not mag fed.

sorry guys i meant 1/2" groupings at 50 yards.

Now we're talkin'. For $700-$1000 you can make a ruger do that, but would be better of buying the volquartzen at that point. And as said already a T/C R55 will do 1/2", I've had two marlins that would do it also, both model 60's using sk standard plus. You have a lot more choices looking for 1 MOA at 50m.

Check with Sylvestre Source for Sports and Milarm Co. Ltd., both are listed as authorized parts dealers, they might carry complete rifles. Both dealers are located in Alberta.

My Ruger 10/22 can shoot 5-shot 1/2" groups at 50 metres. I did it indoors with Remington Target ammo (made by Eley) and the following modifications:

GM Heavy Taper barrel
Boyds Blaster stock, with brass pillar and rear receiver JB Weld bedding (both DIY)
Bolt radiused and polished (DIY)
Trigger group sent to Brimstone for tier 2 job, just under 2.5lbs
New extractor

That's about $400 plus the donor rifle, which I had unmodified for almost 25 years. Add another $100-200 if you can't DIY. That looks like about $800 worth for an out-of-the-box shooter, + or - a bit.
Use a VQ (or Kidd) barrel, stock and trigger, and $1000 for a ready to shoot gun starts to look like a bargin.

I'm happy to shoot groups just a little bigger using CCI Sub-Sonic at about a third the cost of Eley.

Thompson Center Benchmark or R-55 is the rifle that will shoot 1/2 groups at 50 yards all day long. I am not aware of any other factory offerings that are as good for the money. They come up on EE once in a while. they are no longer made by TC, they didn't sell well.
