Hi folks, I am interested in buying an awesome semi auto shotgun for a little bit of everything. Right now I am having a problem with pidgeons in my barn sh***ing on my tractor. I love shooting shotguns. Right now I have an 870 tactical that isnt all that great for when the birds get to far away( i am a terrible shot) I also have a Benelli Super Black Eagle 2 that I could jazz up a little. ie choke tubes, extended tube, better sights.
Any info would be great.

As much as I dislike the Benelli SBEII I must admit that the gun will do the trick for pidgeons...and anything else that needs to be shot!. For those flying rats all you need is a modified choke, some cheap 1 1/8oz loads of 7.5s and you are good to go. Pratice at the skeet, trap or sporting clays range would help improve your shooting skills as as well!

Is the modified choke the smallest pattern? Are there any better sights that any of you know of? I know the shot sprays allover and i can basically point and shoot but a little larger iron sights would be better for my shot.I am in the Regina area and I will look around for some skeet clubs. Thanks.

Modified is about middle ground for choke tubes. It will typically give you good patterns out to the 45 yard mark which is pretty much the limit for #7.5 on pidgeons anyway. What barrel do you have on that SBEII? If it is a vent rib and bead setup then that is all you need for wingshooting, anything and everything else will hinder you.

Pigeons are a tough bird to tackle...they are built like tanks, and are strong flyers. Trap and skeet will definitely help you with your aim, but the best practise at shooting pigeons is actually shooting pigeons. I've been shooting trap and skeet for quite some time, and I'm no pro by all means, but every time I head out to shoot pigeons, the game totally changes. They are definitely a challenge.

I like to use a #6 shot for them, and I tend to use a tighter choke, since they like to fly pretty high. I use an improved modified or full choke.

Just my 2 cents...good luck...

Thanks everyone for the posts.I do have the vent rib with bead.I will try the different chokes. Cant stand it though when my dad and I are shooting at the buggers and he nails them and all i get is pidgeon feathers in my face.

Experience beats all. From the sounds of things, you are relatively new to shooting. Go out and put a few thousand rounds down the pipe and see how much more accurate you can be. The benelli sbe2 is an absolute top notch gun. I'm going to sell almost every rifle I own to try and afford one.

You've got a fantastic firearm, now make it an extension of your shoulder.
