Best Semi - Benelli R1 vs Browning BAR w BOSS

The synthetic is heavy,so no felt recoil.Had to reload to get exellent groups.Has never mis-fired or given any grief.Fun gun to shoot.I have a vx-r 4-12x40 on the syn.

Can't comment on the Beni, although for a time I thought I'd like to have one.
Also can't comment on the lighweight BAR.
But one of the most accurate hunting rifles I ever owned was a 308 BAR, also had a 300wm BAR, didn't keep either very long, to heavy, & the clip/mag onto the drop door/swing latch loading system is a real pain in the ass to use.

Well actually I had two....BARs.
I gave my opinion of them & the original poster can use it to compare to an opinion some one else might have on the other...and he's welcome.

Sorry if my opinion offended you in some way....or not Thk

Have the following in 30-06

Benelli R1
H&H 940
BAR Longtrac
Winchester SXR
Remington 7400

I also have an SBE II that I use for everything.
I preffer the R1 over all the rest. It has the best fit and feel for me. I wished I bought the wood one, they're really nice. I find the forestock on the plastic one comes loose all the time because if you tighten it up it spreads it apart.

My Dad has the Wood R1 and it kicks about the same as my plastic one. He also has a Wood SBE II that does kick more than my plastic one. When he first tried his R1 out after years of a 700 BDL 7mm he laughed and said "It's like shooting a big 22"

R1's are also fairly easy to clean. When the bolt is held open and you tip the gun barrel up/barrel down you should hear the piston move inside it. If it is hanging up and not making noise, it's time to clean it.

The longtracs are good too, and they are more accurate (same gun as the winchester SXR just different wood and no bolt release). They just don't fit me or feel as good when I shoulder them as the R1. I didn't like the floorplate system so I bought a few Winchester SXR magazines to use in it (fully detachable). Or you can just buy the detachable floor plate. If you want the part numbers PM me.

Hmmm now that is some interesting info to consider - thanks Drillbitt

Be on the look out 2012 will be the year we will see the MR-1 in 308, that is gonne be a sweet rifle...Cheers. JP.

If they can build a MR-1 308 as good, reliable and accurate as the original MR-1, we are in for a big fun factor... Cheers. JP.

My father has the Benelli R1 in 30-06 and 300 Win mag. They are wood stocks, and the wood is REALLY nice looking. I find the 30-06 pleasant to shoot, the 300 is another story. The detachable mag is good quality. Neither gun is a tack driver. Neither R1 has ever jammed, very reliable.

GTRussell, are you going to tell the OP where you got your R1s for such a great price?

M1 Garand. Designed just for that.

Flame suit on G:ovrec

I was resisting the urge to say that and then you go and do it anyways. I agree, my Garand goes hunting with me at least a couple of days every year. It has accounted for two deer so far. Excellent iron sights, close to 1MOA accuracy (from mine), tough, reliable and historic. What's not to like?

I have owned both. I had a Bar Lightweight Stalker in 30-06. I sold it for a R1 Synthetic in 300wm. The R1 was real picky on what grain bullet I shot through it.
On the other hand the BAR in 30-06 would lick up any round I fed it. The Bar was more accurate but the Benelli felt better. In the end I sold the R1 and bought an X Bolt.
If I had to buy another Semi I would buy the Browning
