Not sure why we are fools but I happen to find the Garand to be my favourite.

How many rounds does the K98 hold? And how fast can you load them?

How about rate of fire?

Was yours designed by a Canadian?

I rest my case.

Enfields are good too.

Best service rifle ever made? There is no best, just a long debate of pro's and con's in which everyone realizes no gun does absolutely everything better then the other.

Huh?

(Just not sure what prompted this, and why the opinion ;) )

Yes,, Why the opinion? Perhaps the avatar of PanzerSlob2 will give us a clue? Anyone recognize it?

It is the Divisional insignia of the 1st SS Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler.

best service rifle

I'd have to say it's the Sig550 carbine. To bad it doesn't come with metal mags, and in 6.5 grendel or 308.Another good rifle is the Robinson armament m96 expedionary rifle.223 is too wimpy certain groups in the US are experimenting with replacing the 223 and what a surpise they are looking at bigger bullets again.6,5 grendel and 6.8spc are being seriously looked at.Also they want to replace the prehistoric m16 one option is the xm8.If your talking wars past General Patton called the garand the "greatest battle implement ever devised" I personally like the M14 best.

Yeah,, I was about to mention this very fact. Wittman,, a name from the distant past. He made quite a name for himself on the eastern front and in particular just after the Normandy landings at Villers-Bocage.

I'm not sure about the wisdom of continuing this thread. I wonder how many other new members of the Gunnutz forum have chosen to associate themselves with this highly controversial military unit.

Well Well fools: the best service rifle ever made IS the K98.
Get A Grip
Seen a documentary on a 1944 German patrol in Belgium(?), point man was carrying a MG42, all the rest were packing garands. I guess they were tired of carrying the same old rifle their grandfather carried in 1914.
