Best 'short barrel' cartridge?

Check your reloading manuals for pistol data on cartridges for the contender, and compare with the same cartridge with rifle data.
That should give you a good idea what kind of losses to expect with barrel length changes for different cartridges.
Note also, that for the most part, the same powders that work well at rifle lengths, work at pistol length.

Good idea...Even in his infirm old age, Johnny shows he still can still formulate brain waves from time to time.:p :p :D

Hey Foxer

How about the .308 remington 600. Mine is short, sweet and nasty. Got a leupold scout scope, now just waiting forever for the fcking HS precision stock for it.:(

Short Barrel Caliber

Well Foxer you sure got some good wealth of advise, I have attached a photo of my short light gun,

Rem Model 7 in .308win 18.5" barre
High Tech Specialties Stock
Leupold 1.75 to 6x scope with dot,by Premier
total weight as photo with scope , sling etc 6.5 lbs

The load I have for this gun is rather light, 150gr Speer Hot cores,44grs of Imr 4064, shoots 3 shots .700" at 100 if I do my end. Have not chrono this load but have loaded, some shells up in 1/2 grs to 47gr to try how they work and will check on chrono.
If for some crazzy reason I decided to change barrel to Hart to get under 6lbs I think I would go with a 7mm/08 little better ballistics, or a 6.5/284, but recoil might be a large factor

Damn CC... you might just be on to something there..

yup, or you could look back at post 40 ;)

I still can;t warm up to calling it a .338 Federal, it's been a .338-08 for far to long. run the numbers, it really doesn't do anything a .308 doesn't, but if you want something different.....
