I went through my training with my Beretta 92a1 and had a blast. Im not at the point right now that Im going to buy a competition pistol and high end gear, just love having fun and developing my skill. I love shooting my P226 and am going to bring it out next session, would have sooner, just have no holster that fits it. So anyway, as of late ive been wanting to buy a P220 for my collection. while im spending the coin I also wanted to know which 220 would be best for ipsc shooting. I have my heart set on a P220 combat but would be swayed if I can get a multi purpose out of it. Im wondering if the stainless models or the match models really would make a difference. I know they make a match that is 6" or the x5 that are sigs "match" pistols..... What does everyone think. It was originally a toss up between the combat and the stainless elite, what does everyone think. Just having fun at this point.

X-5 is wonderful but you'll want an SRT trigger for it. If not that then a stainless elite. The trigger on an X-5 is way better than a standard 226 trigger, still not close to STI trigger though.

X-Five all around for production division. Hands down the best Sig for IPCS. Bull barrel, dual recoil spring, long sight radius, adjustable sight, built like a tank. Cost a pretty penny and if it break down, some parts are hard to find because it's not exactly like your run of the mill P226. What I did on mine is to replace the trigger with a SRT, replaced the grip with the E2 and replaced the front sight with a fiber optic. You can replace the main spring with a 17-18 lbs for a better trigger pull.

Since you're specifically talking about the 220 many of the above suggestions are not helpful. You probably don't want to hear this but ultimately the 220 is not well suited for IPSC at this time as it has handicaps in both Standard & production division (mag capacity, calibre). however if you have your heart set on shooting a 220, please go for it! I shot a USP 45 (also non-optimal for IPSC) for my first two seasons and I don't regret it.

If the 'Classic' rules get changed to allow other single stack guns then the 220 would be an OK choice for that division.

What model of 220 would be best? The single action versions would do well in Standard and, yes the stainless versions might give you some small advantage due to weight. There is a 5" 'Supermatch' listed on the Sig website that would be OK even then however mag capacity will be a handicap.

I've seen one fellow run a 220 with downloaded .45 in Production. I think he was competitive in his class (C or B class I think) so it can be done. IIRC he ran 185 or 200 gr. bullets that dribbled out of the barrel. I assume he ran 9 or 10 round mags, but not sure.
It was quirky and he had fun.
I used a SAO 220 in CDP in IDPA and was reasonably competitive with guys running tricked out 1911s, so in theory I think they would be a good choice for Classic if it was ever allowed.

If you have a 226 currently, I'd just get an SRT trigger installed and a blade tech holster and run it.

I use SIGs, and I like 'em. I'm shooting B class Production. For a holster I just use a Bladetech. Not as fancy as some of the kit that's out there, but it works for me, I have fun, and I've picked up quite a few trophies over the past 5-6 years.
I started with a P220 in .45. I'd love it if I could use it in Classic, but I'm not holding my breath on that. I did take it to the last multi-gun though. You will be at a disadvantage in Production though. Too much recoil and too few rounds.
My primary competition gun is a P226 9mm. I have backed that up with a P226 dark elite. Both have the SRT. Super reliable guns, but they are what they are, general duty guns. But I like 'em.

Agreed, I did the same to mine for IPSC with Hogue grips. The X-5 has very little recoil because it such a nice beefy gun and it's very easy to shoot accurately. Very nice, not cheap but Ive seen them come up on the ee for a substantial saving every so often. Got mine off the ee brand new. Saved about 5-600 bucks.

beltfeds advice is valid too. It all about the fun and a standard 226 is more than up for the game.

Right on guys thanks for the thoughts, I was planning on trying my MK25 once I get the right holster. I got the bug now, love the sport...

any ideas for shops in Canada where I can get a holster that will fit a sig with rails. I use a CR speed with my Beretta and love it, any thoughts...
