I don't get bothered by hulls landing around me or the odd one hitting me but when they are bouncing them off my gun I tend to get a bit miffed. I once had a shooter next to me get pissed at missing a target, removed his hull, threw it away in disgust and it bounced off the stock of my cherry Broadway Superposed leaving a dent and white mark in my stock. I was "rattled" that day!

Never had a problem with semi-auto's bothering me at any registered shoot. The hull is long on the ground before i'm calling for a target. I hold a few small trap shoots at my place every year, and the majority of guns are automatics, never bothered me. Lots of stuff bothered me but flying shoot shell wasn't one of them.
 
The 812. No she's a 20ga so pretty forgiving. Originally bought it for my wife to shoot but I like it so much I shoot it as much as she does. I also have a CIL clone of the Remington and the CIL handles and shoots just as nice. they are a nice pair of single barrel tarp guns
 
A homemade shell catcher works good in a pinch...

The Rem 11-87 trap models still come with that rivet installed on the upper barrel extension inside the receiver. Every shell ejects forwards and slightly right for right handed guns. Opposite on lefties obviously and there is zero chance you'll even get close to hitting a squadmate. If the shooter next to you is firing a sporting clays or hunting shotgun, all bets are off!
It never hurts to ask a semi shooter if it's a dedicated trap model or not then plan you next move accordingly.
