Best SKS setup ever !!! UPDATED !!!

Well I got some figure 11 targets and some soft point ammo for this weekend... Will see how good of a grouping I can get @ 100y . I will also cheat a bit by using a bipod...

New Again.

I am getting back into the shooting game again after a looong time.Gonna get a ruger mkIII for cheap handgun practice and looking at the sks russian new laminated stock from Prarie gun traders. For $220. I guess you can only go wrong by $220.
Any opinions? Looked locally,Halifax, surplus store has same without lam. stock for $250.
also where is the best place to get bulk 7.62x39 ammo, non corrosive?
Just joined this site,,liking it!

When your up to your ass in alligators,it's hard to remember the initial objective ,was to drain the swamp!

Westrifle still has their spring special on, Russian SKS in hardwood and lam for $195. Just waiting on mine. Alot of their rifles are non-refurb from what I understand

I bought a Russian SKS at the Halifax Army Navy Store around Xmas, have had it out twice so far, love shooting it its a blast. Hnatiuks in Elmsdale carries non corrosive ammo for it its about 12 bucks for box of 20. I used some, but just prefer to shoot the surplus stuff and clean the barrel after, these rifles aren't snipers so i dont expect great accuracy beyond 100 to 150 Meters. Still a lot of fun and good practice for me.

100 Y grouping on surplus ammo... My sight picture was the Head of the fig11 over my red sight... So the SKS is bang on @ 100y...

Well hunting season is upon us soon, and Im broke... The SKS will have to be my Deer gun this year...

Any one here use their SKS as a deer gun ? Do you have any tips for me ! I know I will have to hit the range to zero in my softpoint... and hopefully get a better group @ 100Y if not I will have to wait for the deer to be on top of me...

Thanks

Definitely try with quality hunting ammo. My sks shoots much, much tighter groups with the commercial soft point I have than it does with surplus ammo.

What brand are you shooting for hunting and how much tighter?

Just wondering because I am thinking of picking one up and would shoot the surplus ammo for fun but would like to take deer as well.

I have a ton of Igman soft point I bought a while ago, don't think it is available anymore. My sks shoots like 5" groups with surplus, and 2.5-3" with the Igman, which is perfectly acceptable for a short range deer rifle. With optics or better sights I imagine it would be even better.

I went from a ### tactical mall ninja SKS to this... And let me tell you its well worth going back... I can hit my target now... LOL ....

Forking out the Extra 25$ for a handpick was well worth it... :D

This is the best SKS setup ever ( FOR ME ) ;) ( I also have the Tech sights on my 10/22 )

As soon as I get my .041 insert I will post my 100M groupings... ( im at just under 2 inch right now) I was at 4 inch with my ### mall ninja SKS...

What happened to the two inch groups you had at the beginning?

At the beginning i was using factory ammo and like I posted It was at the 75 mark... That last picture of the fig11 is at 100 freehand with surplus...

My 50 group was 1 3/4 freehand the picture is posted...

I will try to hit up the range Saterday and post my groupings at 100... Might even put the Thin tech sight post back in as well...

Will keep you posted...
