looking to put a sling on my model 94...reccomendations on the best setup ? preferably from bottom of the stock to bottom of the barrel/magazine style...thanks for any info and advice
I use a mag tube clamp swivel stud and I drilled the butt stock for a 1" wood screw threaded swivel stud... easy to do. The sling has come in handy if quite a few instances... you wont want to do this with a collector... but you wont be hunting with a collector anyway.
Uncle Mikes has a tidy setup for the Winchester 94', but like Hoytcanon mentioned, you're going to have to drill into your stock for the rear stud. I saw a custom setup on a guys pre 64' once, he had a thin piece of shim stock behind his buttplate with a sling ring brazed to it. It was strong and ugly as a boiled boot, but saved his wood from being drilled. seemed to serve the purpose
YOu can also get a leather sleeve for the butt of the stock and have a swivel off of that if you don't want to drill. It's what I did, also put some bullet loops on it and made my own barrel band sling loop, but the uncle mikes magazine band and a rear swivel would be easiest.
I have used the Uncle Mikes set with the rear stud and the clamp on the magazine tube a couple times as well. Works great. Just take your time and line up that rear stud perfectly square and straight when you drill. If it is off it looks bad and is obvious.
