Best slings for a heavy hunting rifle

I use winchester stretchy neoprene slings. (I bought 5 one time for $4 each on sale at walmart). Anyways, they make my guns feel about half their weight while on my shoulder. Plus they are durable and grippy so they dont slide down my shoulder while walking.

I make my own, veg tan leather, usually 1” wide, adjustable but not easily or fast so it stays where I want it(I find the sweet spot and forget about it)! Treat them well so they do t soak up water! They last multiple life times lol!

I use Quake "The Claw" slings on all of my rifles... comfortable and stays in place, and it's weather proof.

All of my rifles are heavy, most of my slings are broad on the top and tapper narrow to the bottom. Regardless, I'm always switching from left to right shoulder and visa-versa, all day. I also cradle my rifles in my arms, switch hands by carrying the gun at my sides. I can never find a comfort zone having a gun in one position while walking.............maybe I need a light weight rifle.

Or eat a pot roast or two...

I like the 1.25" 1907 pattern sling, in BioThane (either Brownells or Turner)

I broke a collar bone and never had it reset. I’m with you when it comes to scoped or heavy rifles. I can’t sling a rifle comfortably. Switch sides constantly, always trying to cradle the rifle to take weight off my shoulders. Best thing I’ve found is a 92 16” 44mag. Hand wraps around just in front of trigger group, super easy and comfortable carry all day long.

Many years I carried heavy magnums. Now I live in the land of the lilliputian blacktail.

Anyways, never found any system or sling that worked. Five km in, I was ready to throw away my rifle and walk out. Then I discovered what worked for me. Crossed over my back, barrel behind my left ear. I cut the web just above the bottom quick connect swivel and install a backpack quick snap....juice box thingy.

So across my back, reach down and grab the tag end of the strap, pull it tight. Never moves see a animal, snap the quick connect and the rifle swings around, right into my arms. But a minute to loosen it, reconnect, sling it, tighten it down. Works for me, no fatigue, no sore/switching shoulders, no losing the rifle to the Alder monster, hands free.......

That's amazing, I broke my clavicles 7 times: 4 times on my left shoulder and 3 times on my right, all sports injuries. My right shoulder slumps more than my left, therefore I start-off slinging my rifle over my left shoulder, it fits better on the left. Regardless, I'm switching all the time with 5 different positions. Most times I don't notice myself doing so, concentrating on deer sign while walking (head up and down) distracts from the burden of a heavy rifle.

If it's possible, could you post a picture your sling setup? I'm intrigued... I assume the quick snap is just above the lower (buttstock) sling swivel? So when you disconnect the quick snap, is your right hand grasping the tag end or buttstock so that the rifle rotates down and then back up your right arm?
