Rebarrel a Ruger M77 markII.

I am emotionally attached to the rifle (got my first moose with it).

Now with 600-700 rounds through it , I cannot get the same 3/4 MOA with my handloads.

That one is a stainless, laminated in 300 Winnie.

I'd like to put a 0.5 MOA barrel, the same lenght and finish as the old one. Does the Mauser style action need accurising ? Is it easy to do ?

Name me a reputable smith that can do the job nicely and ''fastly'' he he....

It's going to take several months just for a barrel to arrive in country, unless you are lucky ans someone just happens to have one sitting in a corner collecting dust. Then you have to get in line behind everyone else who is having a rifle built. It is a very slow process.

In my opinion you would be wasting your time and money. Ruger actions are not benchrest actions and attempting or expecting 1/2 moa from a hunting weight barrel screwed to a Ruger action is setting your sights a tad high. It can happen but would be more fluke than design.
After 600 rounds your throat is not shot out, I suggest you decopper and clean it well first......check all screws both in action and scope mounts......Check your stock to see it hasn't cracked through the web between the mag well and trigger recess.......get it properly bedded, if it hasn't been done.
And lastly think about what 1" at 100 mtrs means when hunting..............it means you can shoot a moose/elk/deer in the heart at 500 mtrs. Is that not accurate enough for your needs?

Very GOOD informative info there for you MUSH ! might save you a BUNCH of money ! and hes right can you shoot better then MOA ? Cheers RJ

I would clean (completely copper strip) , bed, try new load on fresh clean barrel... agreed with others, may be not worth the amount and effort you are talking about putting into it. And it certainly shouldn't be worn out, unless you have been pushing it way tooooo fast.

Ruger have an unusual bedding system where the bedding stability depends upon contact at the forearm tip. Lots of opportunity for sub optimal performance, particularly if/when the stock warps. Glass bedding the action (~100$) to free float the barrel, and provide action support immediately ahead of the foreend screw will do wonders for your rifle.

lots of smiths can do it for you. not many will do it quick. figure 6 to 12 months.

6 to 12 months? Just got mine back and it took him 6 weeks till I got it back. Try the sticky on smiths I posted Neil Suthills name and number on there. He is good at the trade and an all around good person. He is from Dorintosh, Sk area if you don't mind shipping it.
Hope this helps
Cheers

All of the smiths on my list have a backlog. All of the barrels I am willing to use have a minimum 6-8 week delivery. Your circumstances with 6 weeks is very unusual, but I have never heard the name of your smith and that likely may have something to do with it. He isnt back logged.

Anyway. 600 rounds won't cook a 300 WM, use some aggressive cleaning techniques (ammonia and JB bore paste) and really polish the bore. Clean your chamber and recesses well, and check your crown. Then have it bedded.
There are lots of 0.5MOA barrels out there; not so many 0.5MOA actions, bedding jobs, stocks, smiths, chambers, ammunition, reloading practices, etc.
And it's a hunting gun. If 1MOA won't do it to 500yards for you, it aint the gun.

Best to wait till after Christmas now for any work. Everyone will be super busy for the next couple months and then the holidays will be upon us.

Lots of good advice in this thread to check out instead of a new bbl. anyways.
