Best spotting scope

Ya actually the youkon doesen't look that bad. I should have said this before, but I'm looking for the best bang for my buck, I know i'm not going to get something extravagant, its just that you don't ask for the worst piece of junk under 200 bucks, you ask for the best thing under 200 bucks.

The Vortex that I posted the link to above is an unbadged Vortex 20-60x80 Nomad model. the 60mm version sells for $330 US. So you're getting a $330 scope for $200 US. With our dollar getting very close to par, I think that's the best bang for the buck. You won't get anything spectacular, but the reviews have been decent, especially for the price point.

Here are the best threads I've found on this so far. I'm even toying with the idea of picking one up just to try it out and compare it to my Pentax.

The actual link to the product is on my earlier post.

I'd check around before making your final purchase. Make sure it's your decision on which one you think is the best.

So far in the very low price range, this seems to be about the only one I'd consider. The reviews by those who have them have been decent. You do get what you pay for, but in this case I think you're getting more. Vortex is a new name that's developing a good reputation for affordable and decent optics. Now add in that it's an unbadged model and you get about another $100 below the cost.

Ya, well were not really those shooters that are looking to get 1/4" groups at 300 with out 30/30, were just really looking for something that makes the range experience better, instead of shooting, hoping for the best, walking down and seeing that its shooting high and to the left, over adjusting, shooting, walking down and see that its shooting low and to the right.

I just bought a Bush Master from Canadian Tire for $99. I thought it would be OK for spotting on the 25 yard range. What a pile of junk. It's going back and I will look for something in the $300 range. I saw some second hand Bushnell's at a gun show for $130. May be the way to go for me.

Le Baron has a Tasco 20-60 x 80 which isn't bad at all for $183 plus taxes. I returned it due to the tripod breaking and picked up something else. The tripod was very cheapy rinky-dinky, but what do you expect when you pay $180 for a spotting scope, hard and soft case and a tripod.

The optics weren't bad at all though.

Mysticplayer,
The Pentax 80 right angle, with the 20-60x zoom eyepiece, would say it's about the best dollar value out there? I'm seriously needing a good scope, but can't afford the real big names, but might be able to swing the Pentax. Of course then I'll want one of those spiffy tripods that go near flat too, and they look like they cost as much as the scope. maybe I'll just cheap out on the tripid for now....
