"Best" Spotting Scope

anybody have a recomendation as to the "best" spotting scope for hunting use? the best balance of performance, weight, and cost. it would be used for hunting sheep, goat, and mule deer in the mountains, so weight and durability are important.

my price tolerance is probably up to $1500 (depending on how many toys i sell to finance it), although someone might be able to talk me into going higher.

This is what I just bought.

There is a guy in New York that had some demo models, he posts here, too. That is where I got mine, and I was 100% satisfied.:)

Buy a scope with the largest objective lens and best light transmission that you can afford. P&D had a fine Leica (used) for sale in Kamloops. I don't know if they still have it or not, under $1000 with a 60mm objective. I really prefer the 80mm objective scopes, for their enhanced light transmission. Very early in the morning or right at the last light, is when the trophy animals usually come out, the 60mm-65mm scopes just don't cut it, not with ageing or diabetes inhibited eyes anyway. Get the best the first time, It will save you alot of money in the long run. bearhunter

The demo Zeiss Diascope 65's with the Zeiss zoom eyepiece is $1199.99 and in stock.
We also have some Leicas around the same price.

how do the leicas and zeiss compare in weight? i was checking out binoculars last year and the leicas felt like lead weights in my hand, the zeiss seemed the brightest, but the swarovski's seemed to have the clearest image.

anybody try using the doubler that is available for the swarovski's? and i think zeiss makes a tripler.

so US$1200 is probably around C$1450. are there brokerage fees and GST to be paid at the border?

I thik mine was $1525 after everythign was paid. GST customs fees etc
