I don't understand guys needing a bunch of rounds in the magazine?
All you need is one shot. If you miss the shot you probably wont get another..two is plenty...We are not hunting cape Buffalo here?

The blind mag is a bit of a PITA, but on your budget the Stevens is probably the best option. Historically some of the finest rifles ever made had floor plates that were extremely difficult to open so were usually only ever opened if a some debris got in the box.
Personally I'd be fine with a bolt action single shot.

You will notice gun stores usually have spare clips for sale????....Ever heard of Murphy's Law?

I just like the slap the mag in and one quick cycle and your ready to go. I guess there is only 3 rounds. So it might not be as big as I'm making it to be in my head.

If your on a budget take a look at a Stevens 200, just under 400$ that gives you 300$ to spend on a scope, you could look at a Elite 3200 scopes to top your gun. You will have a great combo..... 308 winchester gets my pick for what you plan on using it for

love my savage 111fc whatever in 300 win mag. Pretty heavy recoil but only an issue after 20 or so rounds. I put a nikon prostaff on it. It has a detachable mag which I love for about 700 all in. I think it's a little more now.

I wouldn't own a friction turret scope myself....Time to break the bank thundergrey!

....It was one of the options listed in the pol!:D

My vote is "other" as in a well used Remington 700 from about 1980 or so.
Or..
Winchester M-70 or..
... better still a tang safety Ruger 77 and top any of them off with the best optics you can afford.

270,280,30-06,308, 7m RM,300WM,...:dancingbanana:

It seems u have not found the one that makes money not matter, since u are impartial to different brands, it makes the most sense to me for u to shop around and search out the best deal. u can often save a couple hundred bucks on a gun and therefore be able to afford something a little better... if u can wait. also i wouldn't hesitate to grab something from the EE. i agree with what a lot of others have said... when it comes to buying a scope, get the best u can afford and u'll have it forever (especially leupolds cause of their lifetime warranty to any owner)

good luck, and don't torture urself too much... if u don't like it, trade it and upgrade:D

hmmm... i have seen the huskies but are they still being made or are they a europe thing? is there some where i can find more info on the different models? are they a blind mag or floor plate or a mag?

The Husqvarna is a European rifle. No longer made, but a very fine rifle nonetheless.

Most have a drop floorplate.

.

Savage package rifle or Stevens 200 would be my vote choice for a starter rifle combo.

NAA.

I have a dozen guns and I dont own any of whats on the list. My base combo would be my 30-06/308, plus a 12ga and a 22. If it walks or flies its dinner. And Zombies are covered too:)

Being a husky owner (270), I'd have a look at that option. They are a fine rifle, and there seems to quite a selection of them. My Brother shoots a Husky in 30/06 and his is one of my favorite firearms.

Buy good glass!
