Hi there, I'm looking into getting a 1911. What I'd like to know is your opinions on a good sub $1000 1911 for just having some range fun with. Such as getting a $300 Norc or if it's worth stepping up to a $500/600 Regent, Remington or SAM or waiting to save up and get a piece thats over $1000? I guess my main question is is there a noticeable difference between the $300 Norc or the $500 Sam/other brands? I'd appreciate any opinions but please stay away from the "Chinese manufacturing sucks" train. Thanks!

So far my SAM 1911 (GI style) is ###y as hell, very good build quality, no rattling at all, seems to feed FMJ really well but it seems to shoot low (but that may or may not be operator error on my part).

ive got i think 6 1911's and id say if you want a tight well made 1911 go for the entry level Kimber.
i have the Custom II and i got it on sale for i think it was $780 and nothing comes close to it for fit and finish and quality.
that said good luck finding them on sale, haha

as a 2nd choice you cant go wrong with a SR1911 for $700.
i have one and love it, real nice shooting gun.

as for the SAM my dad picked one up but i havnt gotten to shoot it yet, but he claims that fit and finish is the same as his Kimber and has yet to have a failure of any type on it, and for 1/3 of the price.....

Your third statement sums it up nicely.

For a gun that you will actually shoot, versus one that you will admire:

Norinco plus $700 worth of ammunition. Or Norinco plus $200 worth of aftermarket parts and $500 worth of ammunition.

Then, if you feel the desire for a "nicer" 1911, sell the Norinco for $275 and go direct to Ruger or STI, depending on your budget at that point.

Thanks for all the great opinions/ideas guys. Much appreciated. I may go with the SAM as I think it would be a good base to work on without breaking the bank. Keep em' coming though. This is all great food for thought.

when the SAMs hit the market a little while back i was very excited to see what they had to offer.
when my dad picked one up i was even more excited to get one myself.

but then the lack of anyone saying anything about them really got me worried.
all you can find is people talking about the 40cal OMEGA and how nasty bad they are for feeding problems.
now one can argue that the 40cal cartridge is not made to cycle in the 1911 platform and such, but the lack of anyone posting anything about how the SAM .45 runs has me..... gunshy?

im thinking ill probably pick one up here shortly just because i really wanna see how they are compared to the North American offerings.
