Best survival/camping .22?

What would be the best .22LR to take camping? I am looking for something that is short or can be broken down to be carried in a pack AND is accurate?

You may wish to look at the Marlin Papoose, if breakdown practicality is your concern, and take a pass at the Henry AR-7, which looks ###y in concept, but not in terms of quality, accuracy or sturdiness.
 
Thanks fella's... I see there is a thread below on takedown .22's...didn't see it before so I'll follow it.

personally, I like a short barreled non-takedown rather then a take-down. I have a 10/22 with a light stock and 11.5" barrel thats just perfect. Or you could look at the norinco or stevens short bolt action rifles. I would buy one if they made them in left hand.
 
Savage 24 is any configuration is a good choice. Look at the Steven 300F carbines. Mines is under 34 inches and I bet you could take the stock off for storage if you really need the reduction in length.

Yes many of them have issues, but if you take a bit of time to sort them out, they are a pretty good little gun. i can consistently hit pop cans, offhand at 30m with the iron sights. This is the type of shooting it was designed for. If you want tack driving accuracy, you will have to look elsewhere.

Had an AR-7 years ago. Lusted after it for a long time, before I scraped up the money to put a deposit down.
Sold it soon after, didn't miss it.
Owned it for less time than I made payments on it. Would take another as a gift, or priced near enough to, but... do not want any more.

Never had a Papoose, but they will take up less space in your pack. Enough Styrofoam to float an AR-7 takes up some space, eh.

You can butcher a marlin stock to save some weight if you feel the need.

The Cricket and TC Hotshot are pretty good pack guns. If you can shoot the little things, anyways.

I have a savage 24 .22/.410. Its a great little gun that is very versatile. It breaks down to a rather small size, i havent measured but i believe it is sub 24". The .22 is handy for small game and with a couple of.410 slugs, it packs quite a punch for the small package.
 
I think I am leaning towards the Marlin Papoose... I like the idea of the AR-7 in that everything fits into the stock but it seems, in the reviews anyways, that the Papoose is a better quality gun with fewer functional issues.

Those with the Papoose... how is the accuracy at 100 yards with the short barrel? Most groundhogs are over 100 yards...
