I am planning on purchasing a SVT40 over the next few days and am wondering if anyone can make a recommendation on the best place to pick one up.

I have done some research on the variety of refurbed models out there and kind of know what I am looking for.

The most important thing is the potential accuracy of the rifle- Bore/rifling has to be as good as I can get, and the rifle as to be "tight" (sorry-lol- but you know what I mean...). Lastly if the reciever was milled to accept a scope mount that would be golden.

Advice please?

Fellow nutz weimajack, Trade-ex are the places to look. P.S Militaria can be considered, price is a bit higher. Not many options to scope a svt. Until 1942, svt had side grooves for scope mounting but sniper version have a small notch too on top rear receiver to lock the mount. Unless its a sniper, not much options to scope a tokarev without altering the rifle. Reproduction mount and scope are available but its not a cheap option and the rifle must be an ex-sniper. I have an ex sniper, re-scoped it but didnt have the chance to try it yet, maybe next weekend:) If you have good eyes, using the iron sight can be very effective:) Hope that help.
Cheers, Jocelyn

I demand a full range report of that. Ive had my hands on one-I'm no marksman but I was damned impressed with how that thing could shoot.

I had the pleasure of shooting one a friend just bought a couple of weeks back from Epps. Nice gun. Wood and bore were in great condition. Shot very accurate for a semi. I think they are on for $279 at Epps. Not sure what it cost to ship if you don't live in the area. Can't be more than $30. By the way i'm jealous, want one of these just can't do it right now. Have fun with it.

I got this nice one from SFRC, it is a shooter with my reloads, open sights under 2 inches @ 100 metres, i did restaure the stock as it was not that nice, it is a very good rifle, i am gone bring it to the range next Friday and i will post a target result picture... Cheers. JP.

Prices are around $250 - $350 all over but the difference is that some inspect (or let you inspect) their product (especially bore) carefully and tell you what you're getting. Some selling online just pull from the crate and send so it's a crap shoot.

As SVT1940/Jocelyn says above, everyone who buys from Weimajack seems pretty happy and you know exactly what you're getting. For the extra $50, worth it.

Get one with rails. The grove for sniper notch is such small alternation.
I love mine with original set up. I can shoot 5 cans in a row at 150 meters. Love SVT it is fun. I just wish someone made new stock for those in SVD style. ( tapco or ATI )

Check out Westrifle. They've got some good prices.
I picked up my 1944 model from a fellow gun nut at a good price so you might want to check the EE.

Solid all around rifle, quite the bang for the buck and pretty accurate too.

Westrifle has spare mags for it too which is pretty rare. Especially at $55 a piece which is half of what some other dealers want.

7.62x54r penetrates 3/4" steel plate x2 at 100yrds no problem.
Seriously accurate too, 2" or so spread at 100yrds with irons sights.
Bit of a pain to disassemble and clean though. The gas system is pretty complicated and needs to be cleaned thoroughly after you shoot.
You can really see why the Germans reissued them at every chance during WWII.

I still prefer my SKS for target shooting though, more controllable recoil, easier to clean.
