I'm looking at buying a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 NXS F1 Scope but the choice in reticles is overwhelming. I realize the elevation and windage turrets are in MOA adjustments but not sure what would work best for a reticle. I want to go with something that will be easiest for unknown ranging of targets, hold overs, etc... Can somebody lend me some insight? I have no idea what I am doing when it comes to using a scope like these I'm used to Aimpoints and EoTechs for close range work! :p

I have an MOAR reticle in a 5.5-22 and I love it. The floating cross hair is great and the lines are a little thicker than on the npr1 or npr2. I also have an NPR 2 and while its nice I prefer the MOAR. It also has 1 moa hash marks which makes ranging easy.

I may be wrong but I think the only reticle for the F1 NXS Scope that has MOA based hash marks is the NP-RF1 and the others are mils and I think the MOA turrets and mils reticles would screw me up so would I be limited to the NP-RF1 reticle if I'm more comfortable using MOA rather than mils?

Reticles are pretty personal, mrad (mil) based or MOA based just make sure the turrets match the reticle. If they are different you are adding un needed complexity. My favourite is the Horus reticle, running the H59 in a Schmidt & Bender PM II. Why have you settled on that particular scope?

What do you understand better MOA or Milrad?

If as it appears you're more comfortable with MOA then the NP-RF1 is a fine reticle and a great choice.

Would a FFP scope be of use to you or could you make due with a SFP and save some $$$ and put it toward ammo?

If you are considering alternatives, I think you will find the Sightron SIII 6-24X50 a great product.

LRMOA in either FFP or SFP will do all you want with optics and tracking equal/better then product at a much higher price point.

There is also MRAD versions now too if that is more to your liking.

Just make sure the turret clicks match the reticle or you will have to do the math translations in your head. I like FFP.

I would go with a mildot system. I have a target dot reticle on my sightron scope and I recently wish I had purchased a mildot version. I recently found a nice spot to try some long range shooting and wish I had a mildot system to range targets. For now I'll just borrow my friends range finder. If your going to be shooting in the bush and at different locations at different ranges, the mildot reticle can help you distance your target and possibly reduce the need to have a rangefinder. In the end, this will help you get on target faster.

Much easier to find, and you won't lose it after a couple hundred posts push it out of your post history.
