So... I was really looking forward to picking up a S&W M&P 15-22... until I realized it was restricted.... :ang

Anyway... now I'm trying to figure out what I should pick up instead. I'm looking for something with a flat top "black" rifle .22 :ar15: and I'm looking for something reliable and something I can feed sh*t and it will shoot it just like gold oh and non-restricted...

I was also looking at the H&K 416 .22 but I'm not sure if its non-restricted and I also heard it won't stand up in the long run...

I have done the research, and honestly, it seems the best bet is the sr-22 by ruger, and you get their full rail for the top.

Much better then the Mossy 715t Flat top
Similar price than the colt m4 ops + S&W M&P 22 + H7K 416 .22, yet not restricted
Can have 10+ magazines as they have not been deemed prohibited like the M&P 22.
Lots of accessories as it is a very popular rifle.

If there are other contenders, I would love to hear of them as I have not purchased anything yet, but will soon.
 
H&K 416 D145RS is also restricted. :/

How about a Ruger 10/22 in a Troy T22 stock or Ruger SR22with a Battledyne magazine?

Had two different mossys, they shot great but are a pain to clean. The sr-22 is the acura or the gun world and the 10/22 the honda civic. Please just know that if you buy one of these guns you'll end up spending twice as much on it with upgrades. The other route is kel-tecs SU-22. It folds, is 4lbs, uses ar 22 mags and you can buy a ar stock for it.
Like many, if the m&p was non-restricted, I'd owen one!
 
Nice 715T's Zelly, I chose that rifle as well because it had the most options out of the box and only cost a little bit more then a standard 10/22.

SR-22 is oversized and $$$$, sure it is a honda civic as far as parts go but I wasn't looking to change the working bits.

I chopped up my carry handle version and painted it.

I'll vote also for the SR or a10/22 done up . Frankly , I think I should have just gotten the SR as my 10/22 cost more with the add ons then the base SR .
Someone here said it was the Honda civic of the gun world and I agree . Pretty much everyone has had or does have one , they are easy to use without a bunch of useless extras , mechanically pretty simple and they keep on running !
I haven't shot the mossy 715 or the SU22 but if I ever get another ( tactical ) 22 its probably going to be the SU because I've heard good things about them .
Go with the ruger because you will want one eventually if you're like 90% of the population .
 
I really like my Remington 597 VTR, very reliable and is comptble with ar15 accesories. there are some bad reviews but the feeding and ejecting problems people are getting is from over tourqued guide rods, finger tight is plenty tight enough.

Go with the Mossy... Best bang for yer buck. I out shoot my cousin's sr-22 all day, its lighter and half the price. I also out shoot my bestfriends 10/22 and I didnt have to shell out for extra stocks and #### after buying a brand new gun. Learn from their mistakes after shooting mine both would have rather bought the mossy and kept the extra couple hundred bucks. Could also be that im just a better shot.

Ive also had less ftf's and fte's than the boys i shoot with, But I also keep mine exceptionally clean (half the fun of owning guns is playing with then at home). I also regularly get 1" groups at 100-150 yards. I forgot to mention that the mossy is a like 5 pounds lighter than the sr-22, so after yote/squirel hunting all day and walking 5 plus km your arms will thank you.

However if your on a budget like me (2 kids under age 5) than this gun is a great option, at $300 for my mossy ready to go versus the $600 for the sr-22 or the $300 plus $200 in toys for the 10/22, the choice is clear. plus you can get away with buying cheep airsoft accesories for this bad boy. Plus if your like me and get bored easy you can just paint'er up like I do whenever you want like this:

Also if you want something different for a bit just pickup a mossberg 702 plinkster stock and jam'er on in, slide a scope on the factory rail built into the reciever and you've got a nice little scout style rifle.
Here is what mine looks like......for now I might get bored and re-paint it again for the 3rd time.

+1 for the SR-22. Fun right out of the box, doesn't NEED anything other than a scope IMHO. Runs good with BC 25 roung mags.

I really like mine, it's fun at 50 yds and even out to 100 some days.

Any reason why you can't just get a restricted license? The more people that have them, the more lobbying power we have to keep the firearms we have. It's not a difficult license to get, really. I gotta tell you, it's one of the best decisions I ever made.
