Best Target for 500 yard testing

I buy the larger orange sticker type 25 yard targets at Wholesale sports and a 10 pack of poster sheets from Staples. 10 amazing large clear targets for about $10.

Here is what they look like at 500 through my scope. I even move the sticker around so I can shoot up to 10 groups on the one target. I pick up the small white stickers to cover up my groups and reuse similer to the black stickers on the f-class targets.

I use black squares. Depending on the grouping ability of the rifle, I can shoot 4 groups on each square. The crosshairs line up well on the vertical and horizontal edge of the square. The squares get re-used several times, until they are too shot up.

I usually just blast the gongs with a fresh coat of paint and a painted aiming point and call it good. If a paper target is required a 100 yard small bore target makes a nice aiming point. Black or orange doesn't matter much until the light gets poor, then the Orange takes over.
 
I photocopy the large orange cross target on 8X11.5" - Staples... that way I have a grid to go by when measuring groups. Even in heavy mirage, you can line up the reticle with the cross and that will help alot to keep POA consistent.

I like an electronic target system that gives me group sizes on my wifi device and lets me print each target I shoot if I like, let alone saving the data for me.
 
for most long range shooting I use an "aiming point" at the top of a framework with a roll of cheap table top covering paper. The paper is drapped down to whatever level will be sufficient to collect all bullet impacts at the distance being shot. I shoot at the same aiming point no matter what distance it is and then measure bullet drop/group size wherever it hits bellow. Works equally well with slow, high trajectory rounds or fast flat shooters at whatever range you want.
