ok well I need some new glass for my new weatherby vanguard S2. ill be using the rifle for target shooting and on occasion deer. its chambered in 308 and I will be shooting it up to 750 to 800 yards. is my price range doable?

I once had very good experience with a SWFA (Tasco) "Super Sniper" fixed power 16x and they show up at good prices here occasionally. But its is not the ideal deer rifle scope. Although you "might" find a decent 4x fixed power for deer and a reasonable used SS for target shooting .. close to your $600 budget. One of the older B&L 2.5 -10 would work (they are heavy for deer hunting) and would be well under your price cap.

I second the Nikon Buckmaster. Got one as part of a package and have been surprised at the repeatability of turret adjustments and the relatively high quality of the glass. It also has quarter MOA adjustments which is quite useful for target use.

Second nomination for the Nikon Buckmaster...Mine is a 4.5x14x40 BDC. Nice and clear, good tracking, Spot on reticule program on line, gives you exact drops for your brand. This is only about a $300 scope. My other choices would be Bushnell 4200 if one can still find a clear out, and Vortex.

Sightron SIII fixed 10x. $629 at Mystic. Forget about using it on deer. Pick up a different scope to swap out for hunting at a later date (as rifle season is closed now).

Minimum 6x is a terrible choice for deer, even occasionally.

Why would you say this??
Most of my big game rifles wear Fixed 6x optics, [6x42 Leupys] and I have shot a lot of deer with nary a problem.

Maybe a bit too much power if your shots are always under 40 meters, but otherwise, just fine.

Regards, Dave.
