Right now I shoot a browning GTi 30" barrel but am looking at the 725 sporting Or xt trap but can't decide on a barrel length. What is your favourite

One only needs to look at the top winners in the game to see that todays top shooters usually shoot a combo gun with a 34" single barrel, usually an unsingle for singles and handicap. Personally I prefer a 32" unsingle. I find it gives me a nice swinging and quick to get to 16 yard sighting plane and still decent mid-range handicap gun. I am currently a 25 yard handicap. At 26-27 I preferred the 34" as long yardage requires less target angle leads and the longer barrel got me out in front of the target a bit easier and with a nice smooth swing. However all around I prefer the nice overall all around characteristics of a 32" single barrel. For doubles I prefer a setof 30" barrels. I find them much faster to get on the first target and across to the second target. I find 32" doubles barrels just a bit slow on doubles for my liking and current abilities. As for anything other than a break action gun I would run a 30" barrel at minimum. A 28" is fine for small shooters but lack the swing characteristics required to shoot consistent handicap scores beyond the 20 yard line.

I shoot a 32" at trap, skeet, sporting clays and fitasc. Had a 30" before that but found the 32" to swing smoother and more consistant. Also remember not all guns are created equal 1 32" will feel different from another so its not really only about barrel length but typicaly all the top shooters in most disiplines are running 32" or 34" for trap. Also i prefer the sight plane on a 32" over shorter barrels.

This can a factor to consider as well, 32" barrels on a Kreighoff will have a different and charecteristics than a Beretta for instance.

Absolutely different guns of the same length barrels have different handling characteristics. My current gun, a Rizzini Fierce 1 32" O/U replaced a Citori Gold XT 32" O/U. The Rizzini handles like a Ferrari compared to the Citori which handled like a Dodge pick up when comparing the two. As much as I like the Rizzini though I ordered one for the coming season in a 32"/30" combo because I still prefer an unsingle barrel for singles and the 30" barrels for doubles. I am really anxious for spring both for the club to reopen and to try out my new combo gun.

The barrels on the 725 are much lighter than the XT, the gun feels very different as a result.

I tried a 32" 725 this past summer. They are much slimmer in feel and handle much differently than an XT but I have to be honest. I have always been a real true Browning fan but the offerings in trap guns since the Citori Plus series has really been disappointing to me. I think the Plus was their last really great Trap offering in the Citori Trap line. For me the 725 had the feel of a nice skeet or sporting clays offering.

I voted "Other" because sometimes you can shoot better with a 30 or 32 or 34 based on your manufacturer, its other ergonomics and of course your own body and shooting ability. I believe nothing beats being able to swing one at the local store... but I know that isn't always possible.

I also used to shoot a 725 and have moved to a k80. And the 725 being so light i never could swing it as good as the earlier brownings and other guns.

I've shot clay targets with barrels ranging from 14" to 36" and longer barrels tend to swing smoother and have a better sighting plane. I prefer o/us in 32" and semis in 30".
