Best trap gun barrel length

Most trapshooter's idea of research involves buying and selling a truckload of guns. I hope you didn't need to go through that time and expense Brad!

There were a fair number of guns purchased and a lot of targets shot at to come up with that conclusion.

One only needs to look at the top winners in the game to see that todays top shooters usually shoot a combo gun with a 34" single barrel, usually an unsingle for singles and handicap. Personally I prefer a 32" unsingle. I find it gives me a nice swinging and quick to get to 16 yard sighting plane and still decent mid-range handicap gun. I am currently a 25 yard handicap. At 26-27 I preferred the 34" as long yardage requires less target angle leads and the longer barrel got me out in front of the target a bit easier and with a nice smooth swing. However all around I prefer the nice overall all around characteristics of a 32" single barrel. For doubles I prefer a setof 30" barrels. I find them much faster to get on the first target and across to the second target. I find 32" doubles barrels just a bit slow on doubles for my liking and current abilities. As for anything other than a break action gun I would run a 30" barrel at minimum. A 28" is fine for small shooters but lack the swing characteristics required to shoot consistent handicap scores beyond the 20 yard line.

I shoot Browning 525 -32" and BT99 -32" when at Trap club.

I find the best for me is 30".
