Best trap shooting shotguns??

So you bought a Sporting gun to shoot Trap with. It can be done but it's not a Trap gun.

yeah it works well and perfect for shooting doubles. i like it better then a single barrel single shot trap gun like a Bt-99 and such. so it doesn't limit me from playing around with the other clay sports.

can't go wrong with an 1100 trap, i use if for this (quite well), and also a good hunting gun !!..although when in the bush, i use my 870 just because i don't care it it gets banged around !!LOL

A good all around gun would be a semi that can shoot 2.3/4 ->3.5 inch shells with interchangeable chokes. it may not be a only trap gun, but it will let you shoot trap, singles and doubles. skeet, sporting, 5 stand, international trap and skeet. and will also let you hunt. the only thing with a semi is you need too pay more attention to it as far as cleaning goes, because you don't want it too jam.

personally i use a perazzi MX15 for singles handicap, i have mx2000 O/U barrel for doubles. and for hunting sporting w/e i use a beretta Xtrema.

imo for you try a semi first I'm sure your local club has members that would let you try their guns for fit maybe even a couple rounds. but be aware that if you have a semi it takes more TLC than and O/U but if u pick the right semi it is more versatile than and O/U.

and it has been my experience that a true trap gun does not shoot hunting loads.
imo browning makes nice "gold" series guns. and berreta makes nice semi's also. don't forget if you plan on becoming a yearly shooter it might be worth it too spend a little more upfront too get the gun you really like.

Most great doubles shooters I have seen that shoot O/U's. Shoot their bottom barrel first (lesser choke) wither a higher POI say 70/30 and up. They want their top barrel (greater choke) to shoot flat at 50/50 or 60/40. After all unless you are super quick, that second bird has reached it's apex or is on it's way down when fired upon.

Thanks for all the advise. I went trap shooting at the hamilton gun club with learntrapshooting.ca. The gentleman who was coaching me my first time last week seemed very knowlegable he checked my eye dominance and helped me out with stance and technique. It was fun. I would like to know if this a good place to learn and practice?
I am realy new to all of this and can't realy tell what a good fit is and natural feel. I checked a buch of suggestions at the shop last night but don't know enough to make a good decision. I will definetly ask the next time I'm at the club to try different guns if there available. I think I was using a remington 1100 classic trap it felt nice but what do I know. Also after he checked my eyes he told me to see a doctor which I probably should since I haven't had them checked in years.

Again thanks for all the advise

Alex
