Best trigger group on an "affordable" rifle?

1) Kimber
2) Cooper
3) Sako

Kimber is clear winner, while the Cooper and Sako are pretty close with the nod going to cooper.

Kimber triggers are a thing of beauty. Only thing better I have used is a Jewel.

Where are all these Kimber Cooper and Sako's for under $1000!?!?

My vote goes to Tikka. I adjusted my .22-250 down to a touch over 2lbs. Its almost too light for a hunting rifle, But that trigger is amazing. No creep and breaks like a Timney would.

Maybe my next rifle will have to be a Weatherby S2. Will have to check them out.

I used to think an accu-trigger was a great trigger, That was when it was my first gun. Tried a friends Stevens .223 with rifle basix and then was not so impressed with my little savage accu trigger LOL

A good and properly tuned trigger goes a very long way to making a shooter out of a rifle, and to that end I've spent some money having them replaced and/or tuned on my Rem. 700s, and tuned up on my Vanguard.

On the other hand, I sighted in a Tikka T3 and two Sako A7s, all of 'em right out of the box. Triggers were pretty much perfect on all three, no creep and broke like glass at about 3 to 3.5 lbs.

I consistently read rave reviews about the Savage trigger.

Frankly and IMHO, shipping a brand new rifle out the factory door with a trigger that creeps, even gratingly so, and breaks at 5 lbs, or, God forbid, ever worse, is just bloody well insulting. There's no excuse for spending good money on a supposedly good rifle, and then having to spend more money on it just to get it to function like the rifle you expected you were going to get for the initial purchase price.

Read an article last year in which 3 of each of 6 different models of popular rifles were tested head to head in a shoot out. The 3 Rem. 700 triggers averaged 4.9 lbs pull, with an average variance of something like 13 ozs.

They rated the Savage trigger the best.

Worth noting, the Remingtons finished the shoot out last overall...and the Winchester Model 70 finished first.

feather and moa triggers are the worst you cannot adjust them to a reasonable weight. i like my tikka and rem 700 triggers are good too even the new ones. the accustyle 783 is good once you get used to it i suspect the accutrigger is pretty good too although ive never tried one. i was able to fix my moa but the xbolt trigger i cant fix.

I have both anschutz single stage and 2 stage, they are the best I've ever tried. But on a hunting rifle, I prefer single stage triggers..... My kimber and tikka are both awesome, crisp, and both hovering around 2.5 pounds.. I'm not a fanboy of accutrigger at all, but I'm sure anyone could get used to it.

My vote goes to the older Winchester M70.
Simple system, easy to clean, can be adjusted by a good smith to be crisp. It may never have the feel of a Jewell, but I think it's the best system for a hunting rifle.

So you say you've never owned a savage then? I know how much your input is worth than.

The guys I know that own Savages and installed a Rifle Basix trigger had bought Savage rifles WITHOUT the Accutrigger, which maybe isn't the best out there, but it's certainly not a "pos" that requires replacement. My son has one on his .17HMR, and it's just fine when set to a light pull.

I also like the M77 MKII (Hawkeye) LC-6 trigger... I have half a dozen and they all break crisp & clean.

I gotta go with the Savage Accu-Trigger for new, under $1K rifles. The one on my M10 Precision Carbine works sweet,as have the the ones on my rimfire Savages.

Mossberg and Marlin are making their own versions of the Accu-Trigger along with a barrel nut to set headspace. Remington has also followed the Savage way with the 783. Affordable rifles with decent triggers are out there as far as new rifles go.

Older M70 Winchester & Remmy 700 triggers are favorites of mine along with CZ single-set units. I can tune these to mere ounces if need be, but for hunting, I prefer a 2-3lb. let-off.

I have a Kimber 8400 which has a real nice trigger that breaks at 3 1/4 Ibs. All three of my FN M-70's have comparable triggers to the Kimber. No creep or over travel on any of them, I adjusted them also to 3 1/4 Ibs. I have never owned any of the after market triggers, or a Tika or Sako rifle so I can not pass comment. I have been very pleased with the Winchester M-70 and Kimber.

Remington (both older models and X-mark), Winchester (both older models and FN), Ruger (both older models and LC6), and Savage (again, older models and Accu-trigger) all produce rifles with triggers that can be made good to great by a handy gun owner or competent gunsmith.

There are also excellent after-market triggers by the likes of Timney and others.

I own a couple of Savage rifles a model 11, and a model 14. Both came with accutriggers.

I cannot learn to love this trigger setup.

However, I discovered an easy solution.......remove the little blade from the trigger assembly.

It will now function like an ordinary trigger, and can be adjusted decently.

Does not lock up, and works fine right down to 2# or a bit less. Mine pass the "bump" test, and are safe.

Regards, Dave.
