Best trigger group on an "affordable" rifle?

The Kimber trigger is. I prefer the trigger on my 8400 Montana to both my Timney and Shilen triggers.
Tikkas, Sakos, Kimbers all have nice triggers, near or over your upper price limit. The Savage Accutrigger is also good, unless you are one of those unlucky few like the guy who started a thread awhile ago, moaning because he apparently lacked the coordination to squeeze the accutrigger without locking it up.
But the Weatherby Vanguard S2 has got to be the best low-priced trigger around. I just got my second one, and both have triggers at least as good as any of the others listed above...and the amazing part is that you can buy one for not much more than half of your preset limit.

I have two rifles with the Accutrigger, and I must say I am not fond of them at all.
If I decide to keep these rifles, they will be replaced with a better unit.
My best target rifles wear Jewells, and they are definitely superior, but pricey.
I also own 3 or 4 Timneys, which are fine on a hunting rifle.
But the new Factory trigger on the Vanguard S2 is a thing of beauty for a hunting rifle.

I quite like the accutrigger especially out of the factory rifles I have or have shot. I do have a jard 1lb trigger on my .204 that I like much better but the factory stock one was horrible.
You might get a Kimber for $1000 if you look around. My Kimbers' triggers easily beat the Rems, Accu-junk, and even my Cooper although not so easy. My timneys and Rifle-Basix don't stand a chance, and Shilen can be a little hit and miss. Jewels are great, esp if you are shooting at 1 pound. Put the 3 pound spring in and a lot of the magic falls out.

The trigger on my old Parker-Hale 1200C is pretty nice. I didn't realize just how nice it was until I purchased other rifles...
I have an old Kleingunther K14 that has an amazingly good trigger Noticably Better that the Sako and 2 tikkas I have.
It was made by Voere of germany imported into the states in the seventies and look uncanally like a weatherby mkV with 3 locking lugs.

When I worked a gun counter I tried pretty much every trigger out there in the under $1000 segment. None are super light, even when adjustable. Tikkas are good all around. The new model 70s are great creep wise and superb overtravel wise, but a little heavy. I never much liked the Accutrigger (I know blasphemy) but they have a slight bit of creep to my finger. Remingtons are decent, but not amazing. Ruger's used to be bad, but recently they are decent. Worst are: Marlin and Non-Accutrigger Savages.

Are you referring to the Pro-Fire trigger?
X2 on the xbolt trigger, no creep, almost no backlash, very crisp.
On another note, I have and do own savages with the accu-joke trigger, worst design there is unless you use a ball peen hammer to smack the firing pin into the primer.

The Accutrigger on my model 10 is great. I had to adjust it heavier because I think it arrived at about 1/2 pound. Too many "surprise" shots from the light and crisp pull it was set at.
And...the trigger on the Anschutz biathlon rifle with a Fortner bolt is probably the best I've ever tried.
