Best value .50BMG

The Windrunner is pretty nice too, my brother has one. The takedown setup is pretty cool, and it's fitted good enough that it doesn't affect accuracy. Got it from Jason at Irunguns last year for the advertised $5800, total came to just under $9000 with a $2400 Nightforce.

Yeah, I saw that one and offered it up to him but he wasn't ready at the time, apparently there is almost a 5-6 month wait for another

If 1000 yards accuracy, fun, and statement, is your goal, I would say mag fed is a must, be it semi or bolt action.

The Steyr HS-50M1 is a capable gun, but somewhat lame in the design department if you ask me. Side mounted mag is so 1950s.

PGW50 is a great option, fun as hell to shoot and seriously accurate if you provide the right ammo.

The semi auto Serbu .50BMG is a great plinker, and amazing to look at and operate, providing you spend a few bucks on a competent gunsmith to tune it to the ammo available in Canada.

The Steyr HS-50 Platform, whether the single shot or the bolt action, is very accurate, and well designed. Just watch out how much torque you put on the bolts that hold the barrel on. (you need to disassemble the rifle for transport.) I have stripped them once through regular use, and needed to take it to a smith to take them out and replace them.

The Windrunner I have no experience with, but it seems to be an upsized .408 cheytac platform. I defer to more experienced users here.

I ordered my brother's at the beginning of December last year and didn't get it until end of April this year, so about 5 months. He thinks the wait was worth it.

I'm curious what make of brake you're thinking of running? PGW is a great choice ... I love my single shot but also want a repeater some day.(magfed)

Go Custom with a Barnard GP action. Should still stay under your price, depending on who builds it. Interesting post about the Windrunner, 5" group at 1000yd, the F Class V Bull is 5" on the ICFRA target, lots of guys can whack it consistently and not use a 50.

I went with the PGW LRT-3, now I wait like a kid in bed at 4am on Christmas morning... the longest few hours of a childs life... these will be the longest days of my life recently

From my understanding I think what they're trying to elude to is that 5" at 1,000 yards is 0.5MOA
Barretts claim a 3MOA so at 1,000 yards that makes it a 30" group.

I'm not speaking from experience just from the previous comments and a little research online. I do like the Barrett name as it's well known for reliability and for being an 'anti-material' rifle where you're hitting larger targets which requires less percision.

I'm usually a pistol guy that just got into trap and now apparently getting into long range shooting... from everything I've read on here everyone talks about sub-MOA percision and everybody laughs at them because apparently it's extremely difficult at 100-200 yards to stay sub-MOA where as doing it at 1,000 yards is something entirely different

From what I've read on line (so take it for what it's worth) the M99's accuracy potential is much better than 3 moa. The guys getting 3 moa are probably using cheap surplus ammo. Unless your plan is to dump a pile of money into match ammo you're going to need to reload if you want to reach full potential....even with your new LRT-3. I'd suggest looking into a 50 BMG reloading kit (RCBS has one with dies) and start sourcing your components while the availability is decent. It is a costly venture but it makes no sense spending that much money on a rifle only to feed it garbage and be disappointed with your results.

I have expensive Match ammo but bought it cheap it works really good;-) pm me if you want to know more still not as cheap as reloading
but the initial cost to produce accurate consistant ammo with .50 is high!

Very nice, looks like they designed a new muzzle brake and a proper bipod for the rifle. How much was it if you don't mind me asking?
