I am think of putting a basic red dot or small magnification optic on my m4 once i get it but am not sure what is out there.

What is the deal with NC-STAR. I have heard they are good from a few and complete junk from others. the reviews online where people have used them on m4 have been for the most part positive but if they aren't good then I will stay away.

Aimpoint and Trijicon are out of my price range so something in between would be considered as well. I just want something for within 100 yards for now as I have other largers scopes that could be mounted on if long range shooting is in order. Thanks again.

I have an NC-Star scout scope on my M14 (and another on a Garand) and they have been working fine for two years and counting.

For a classic-rear mounted scope, M14's have a reputation for being hard on scopes, but it does seem that quite a few guys get fair mileage out of $100 Bushnell/Tasco type scopes.

A bit more money would put a guy into a Leupold Rifleman or VXI with Leupold's great warranty...
