Best vintage 4x scope?

I bought a Weaver K4 from trace a while ago and that scope is amazingly clear and bright. I would recommend one for a lever gun or even the 6x. Price is great as well.

That's what I was going to suggest... Until I got to the part about the $200 budget... Even the 1.5-4 will bust that budget.

While the Bushnell Scopechief VI 1.5-4.5 is NOT a fixed power scope, it is a nice / bright scope and small enough to be a good addition to an old Marlin.

Probably pretty easy to find on within the $200 budget as well.

So any one know where I could find a scopechief 4x(or anything really) with commend post reticule In great conditions??? Asking for a friend….

i think this is the model Ted got me for a christmas and it is now sitting on my 300 savage. the one you can switch the reticle a very good one that even came with the original box.

I shot a 5/8" group the other day with a 129 year old 7x57 with a 4x post and crosshair scope. It is certainly good enough to hunt with. I bought the post and crosshair because my father had one and loved it. I was surprised how easy it was to use. the weaver scopes have a wide post, which is good at dawn or dusk.

No too long ago, I shot a one inch group with a Weaver K4 post and crosshair on an old Husqvarna FN 9.3X62. A 286gr loafing out of the barrel at a bit more than 2300 fps is plenty for everything we hunt up here including 2600 pound bison. It is very good for quick shooting when one pops up out of the snow or comes crashing through the trees.

No need to hesitate buying an older scope with the post and crosshair. It was very popular years ago, however the duplex has pretty much replaced it in current factory offerings.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I ended up buyingr a Weaver off one of you (you know who you are). The scope is excellent, better clarity than I was expecting.

Thanks again.

I would too! Unfortunately, Weaver never did offer that reticle. The closest is the narrow post and crosshair, and it is a good one!

Ted:

I beg to differ; I've had 3 & still own 2; a K2.5-1 & a K3-1, both with German #1 reticles.

They also made 26mm (1.023") rings back in the day (I have several sets, although anyone you speak with there nowadays swears they NEVER made anything like that.

Is perhaps a thing about new people - within the past few weeks I took delivery of a set of Weaver 1.023" rings from Why not? - just "plain jane" ones with blued finish, not colour case hardened, like owned by someone that I occasionally correspond with ... The rings are to go with a Pecar 26 mm body scope - also from Why not? - once a certain machinist makes me a 26 mm lapping bar.

That’s the first I have heard of those German reticle in Weavers, Jim, and I have seen many hundreds of them over the past sixty years. Bad day when you don’t learn something. :)

Have had quite a few sets of the Weaver 26mm rings, but as you say they are pretty scarce anymore. Sent my last set to Potashminer a few weeks ago.
