Best way to clean cosmo off?

Varsol as well can be nasty stuff, I'd use gloves and not indoors unless I can help it..

I concur. My first SKS I decided to use mineral spirits followed by hot water, and although I let the parts soak outside the basement door, when I brought them in to rinse them off under the hot tap the steam and vapor seemed to have made me quite whoozy. Next time I have to clean cosmo I'll probably use just hot water and hot water alone. The SKS I got from Marstar didn't seem to have much on it anyhow. It also had a spring loaded firing pin which I found interesting as well.

i really like simple green because it doesn't eat the skin off your hands. its pretty strong if not diluted.
I used g96 for my first rifle but that stuff is pretty brutal. even outside i felt i had to wear safety goggles and rubber gloves. it ate through my first pair of thin latex gloves.

Boiling water and dish soap will get most of it brake or carb clean for the really stubborn stuff (metal parts)
Hair drier (you gotta go real easy on it) and paper towel (wood bits)
