Best way to disassemble M-14 bolt

I might have to take a coil or two off the extractor spring on my M-14, and I was woundering the best way to take apart and reasseble the bolt.

The best way is to use a bolt disassembly tool. The extractor retains the extractor spring and plunger, ejector and spring, and the firing pin. Lacking the proper tool, it can be done, but do it in a spotless, sealed, uncluttered room, absolutely without a shag rug.

I don't mean to take your question lightly, but this is one of the jobs that is best done with the proper tool. I've done it with, and without, and it is much easier if you have the tool.

I learned the hard way.Parts flew everywhere.Sent it to Marstar for reassembly.They were good about it.I felt stupid.

If so, you might not want to bother. They're a ##### to get apart, and even harder to get back together. Much harder than any of the USGI bolts.

You can disassemble an M14 bolt using the combo tool, but the real place the dedicated tool comes in handy is RE-assembly. It's kind of a pain keeping the ejector spring compressed without one.

Actually, if you rebuild your Norinco bolt with USGI springs, it is much easier to do the assembly... The bolt itself is fine.

Still, I have to go with the recommendation to get the right tool... It makes a big difference.

I have the right tools and it is by far the easiest way to deal with this task.

With a little practice a USGI combo tool is great way to do the job......but as stated the Chi-com springs make this task a real #####!!!!!
