I have a circular 8" AR500 target with two holes drilled in it. I am wondering, what is the best way to hang it so it doesn't fall down after a few hits forcing you to walk all the way back to the backstop? I have used hooks before but one "miss" can sever or bend the hook. Rope gets cut by the shrapnel. I made a little bracket out of wood to hold it upright but even hits from a .22 are gradually destroying the pine that I used to make the bracket. I'm thinking of getting a buddy to weld me something similar to what I made out of wood.

Any suggestions?

i always get the chuckles when i read threads like this. Reminds me of a thread where the OP wanted advice on how to make a box to ship a firearm...

you can disassemble a gun, but need advice on how to hang a piece of metal?

I put the thread in 2 threads ... Figured the folks in the precision forum may not frequent the black forum and vise versa but surely both would have owners / users of steel targets.

I'm simply hoping to stumble across a bed practice that I could make my own.

It would have been nicer if I'd actually hit on the first two shots ;)

Anyone ever tried a super heavy fishing line? Like the deep-sea piano-wire stuff?

The paracord was hit mostly by spash, and was melted at one end. I don't think there's much that will survive a direct hit other than the plate itself. But I like the idea of a steel cable rather than chain just cause its small enough that its less likely to get hit! Although chain can be easier to repair if you've got some d-links
