I have the different style ar that has the fixed front sight and was wondering what the best way to mount a light on it would be
I don't have any rails on the hand guard

Assuming you have the standard hand guards, here are the options that I see, cheapest first :

1) Set of rails that you can bolt onto the hand guard and get a light/grip combo;
2) Different hand guard like the previously mentioned Magpul or a B5 that has options for attaching rails and lights;
3) A clamp-on rail like the TRI-AD;
4) Drop-on RAS;
5) Knock off front sight post and mount a rail, I have 2 KMR 13's;

Recommend option 5.

1) figure out the budget

2) figure out where you want the light and how you want to activate the light

3) figure out the mounting solution and the light

two of these. Seriously. I used it no problems overseas. wasn't pretty but it worke

if you use standard handguards, GG&G has a little pic rail that mounts up near the front and allows you to use any picatinny style mount to put a flashlight on. My personal favorite is to have it at the 10/11 O-clock position (for right handed shooter) so it sits just in front of your thumb.

Or Wolverine has these guys in stock: Mounts inside the A2 front sight and lets you put a flashlight on the front sight:

just buy an Inforce WML & the mount above, I really like mine.

Very good " get er done" option here. You can wrap the light with some super 88 electrical tape to help lock it in place. This type of tape is very heat resistant. Not pretty but works like a hot dam.

The magpul polymer rails can be fit to standard Handguards with easy as well as their offset light mounts if you want a clean look.
