Why not shoot some good 22lr into water and recover the bullets?
Pretty sure they'd mushroom in water, wouldn't they?

Tubing cutter.
There was a video Toeflaedermaus I believe, who used 22 pellets driven by 22cal blanks for impact chisels. He got tremendous speed and good accuracy but I believe he mentioned the barrel leaded up pretty badly.
Good question. If that is true, perhaps copper plated would hold up better? This is starting to sound like a Mythbusters experinent. I gotta think about this for a minute and see if I can find a container to shoot in.
And the bullets were still in good enough condition to reload in a 223?
If you don't mind me asking, why were you pulling them?
I have used .22 pellets over a primer in .223 with good success. Much easier and safer than pulling rim fires apart.
Those won't be so good in a 223, the bullet diameter is different.
They are too small to get a snug fit in the neck of your .223
The pellet skirt should flare the fill the bore.........Harold
I saw that video. He got tremendous speed yes, but accuracy was piss poor. Hitting feet off target at 50 yards if memory serves.
