9mm, ,45 only does holes, you need to BASH the zombie in for good. Nothing like 00 Magnum shotshells baby :D:D

I'll still put my tacticool 18 inch barrel 870 with a 12 gauge tube full o' 00 buck up against your mousy leeetle Judge any day of the week.... Besides, the extra distance the barrel on my 870 offers will help keep the green goo off my nice clean shirt :D

if you want protection from above, put a pistol on your hip, and a sniper on the roof.
 
45acp in any gun works for me, a semi with a revolver too, might as well have the same caliber for both in case the semi jamrs and you can use ammo for both
 
Browning buckmark with a supressor and a bazilian rounds of .22.
...if it takes twice as many rounds to put one down, and you can carry 20 times as much ammo your still way ahead of the game.
Plus everyone knows zombies are attracted to bright lights, obvious motion, and LOUD NOISES.

Never been there when an outbreak happens, huh? - Well, I guess you'll learn. As far as a handgun goes, I'd go with the Calico - those suckers actually worked quite well - until the Zombie's biggest ally, the bureaucrat, banned them. There's something about Zombies that bureaucrats love.

I would take either a G17 or 34, or an M&P9.

There is no point to having a big powerhouse round when only headshots will work, so anything bigger than a .22 is probably sufficient and 9mm is probably ideal.

So all you need is a proven reliable high-cap 9mm. Concealed carry is not an issue in any post-zombie-apocalyse I can picture so might as well go for a full-size and get the extra sight radius and recoil reduction.
