Better Accuracy in a 45 Colt using 454 Casull Brass ?

I have a Marlin 1894 Cowboy 45 L Colt. This week I started to develop loads for 255 grain cast in 45 Colt RP and Winchester brass. Groups have been fine with two loads mic'd at .710" and .783" at 50 yards. Not bad I'm told but I would like better.

I'm assuming when rifle manufacturers chamber rifles it usually is longer than factory ammo, thus allowing for case stretching. I haven't done a casting yet of the chamber but believe it might defiantly be so.

I'm thinking that maybe if I use brass from the 454 Casull which is .100" longer - this will put the bullet closer to the lands - I know not by much but maybe enough to tighten up the groups a little more and if need be, the case can be trimmed.

NOTE: I have no intentions of loading to 454 Casull velocities and pressures - only those for the 45 Colt.

DON'T use 454 brass in a colt chamber , unless you cut the brass back to the same length as colt 45 brass .

if you want the bullet closer to the rifling , just seat the bullet out farther in the case when reloading .( there is a lot of room to do this )

but before you do this you need to measure your chamber to find out how far out the rifling is ...... then to start , seat the bullets 10 thou short of touching the rifling .

"...454 Casull which is .100" longer..." Won't fit in a .45 Colt chamber. It's 98 thou too long.
"...would like better..." Lever actions are not target rifles. 3/4" groups are likely as good as it'll get. What's it do at 100?

not to mention the difference in PRICE- casull brass is ROUGHLY DOUBLE that of 45 colt, the only real difference is the length and the walls are thicker- ie the differece between rifle brass and pistol brass- ie you COULD concieveably load it to higher pressures, if the ACTION IS STRONG ENOUGH- and i'd question that with a non- casull action

I found the best load with 255gr to be 10.2 gr. of Unique and the other group was 10.5 grains unique. I dont know what the velocity is on that one will crony it next time out.

Thanks guys. Think I will stick with what I've ended up with. Really dont want to mess around with the Casull thanks again for your input.
